I like it, but it would have been great to see just one shot from the front with both doors open. All the close up shots were a bit disorienting.

Also, where does all the light come from? It seems airy inside but surely it can't just be that light box and the long window along the side.

This is fantastic. The consistent colour palette allows a great mix of modern and vintage. That Chinese ceramic stool is perfect texture to offset the whole space.

Definitely a library with a beautiful rug in the middle.

This is a nice place and a VERY impressive renovation, but for me it seems to straddle an uncomfortable middle ground between minimalism and eclecticism.

I think more Scandinavian-style wood pieces (furniture, frames) would give it a nice theme to tie everything together. The dining table and the living room armchair work really well because they're add a nice simple texture to rationalize the minimalist lines and the bold colours.

This is the best house tour I've ever seen on AT. It's like a masterclass in themed eclecticism, and an inspirational example of a classy adult home that can use a lot of colour without it looking like a clown mansion or a teenage girl's bedroom.

My favourite parts:

- The geometry of the pillow and the clean lines of the grey couch in the office matching the map above it, with the simple red lampshade adding a perfect accent of colour. The whole office is amazing actually.

- The recurring Chinese theme that is not overdone.

- The use of various wooden textures.

- The use of orange and green to balance each other. Usually these are used in contrast, which can be a little garish, but here it's balanced in a way that is barely even noticeable.

I'd add a nice antique bar cabinet, lose the shelves and replace them with a beautiful piece of art, and then add in a lower-than-waist-height plant to complete it.

Then I'd watch some Mad Men DVDs while having a whiskey.

Sorry to be a bit of a hater but I don't really see what the fuss is about. It's just a white box and even then I don't really think its even using the small space effectively, although it is hard to be sure when the furniture is either absent or moved around just for the photos. Of course, it may be a totally different story when there is furniture in it. With a good eye and some nice textures I can see how a space like this could really come to life.

The computer area seems non-functional and seems like a bit of a waste of space to me. I can't imagine you would be able to work for very long sitting on one of those stools. I'd use it for a bookshelf and some additional storage.

I do like the wood in the bathroom though, and I totally agree with storing away the futon for sleeping. It takes some getting used to but placing a futon on top of tatami makes a big difference to using one on a slat bed or a hard floor. It makes a lot of sense when working with limited space and storing it away and taking it out every day is not a problem at all.

@kushkush In Japanese 'mansion' (manshon) just means an apartment building constructed from cement/brick. An 'apartment' (apaato) is where the construction material is wood. I don't think the terms refer to the style or size of the building.

This is great. Really nice sense of creativity and personality that comes through here. I don't really see why it's described as MCM in the lead-in. Is that what it becomes just because of the Eames chair?

Love: Coffee table(s), sofa (really works), Hall table, Metal sideboard, pull-up bar, KITCHEN ISLAND!

Not So Much: Shelving in the main room is a bit 'nick-nack'y: I would have preferred to see them full of books to add more weight to the overall area. Right now with the spindly Eames chair and thin shelving it all just seems a little rickety; Wish he'd done more with the outdoor area, which looks to have BRILLIANT potential; the TV doesn't seem to fit with the rest of the style; The plants don't seem to have a lot of personality - I'm not a big fan of greenery that's 'architectural' only.

Regardless, I still really like this tour, and this place.

I would never have considered myself a MCM-hater in the past, but the more I see these MCM-icon-only homes on AP, the less I want any of those pieces in my own home.

I'm not going to pretend that this is a vapid, soulless house just because fairly unimaginative, but I'm equally not going to pretend that this is any kind of design coup worthy of note... just like I wouldn't laud a well-dressed person that dresses only in Gucci, Prada etc. as having any enviable sense of style.

The owners seem to have pretty good taste, but I just don't feel much personality shining through. When I see this tour and try and think what kind of person lives in this house, all it tells me is that it is someone who likes designer furniture and reading interior design magazines.

If you had the money, you could almost just walk into one or two stores and walk out with everything there just as it is.

Really like the lighting on the fireplace bench though.

I think a nice wooden bench could be useful, but in terms of a chair I think it's both unnecessary and unsanitary.
