I make my PB&Js like grilled cheese sandwiches... make the PB&J, butter the outside of the bread, and cook it in a skillet for a minute or two per side. Absolutely deeeelicious.

Mmmm made this tonight and it was GREAT. I added about 2 cups of spinach, which made it more colorful and fresh looking. For herbs in the topping, I used basil and parsley. I also added some ground red pepper to make it spicy.

We had it with salad and red wine, as per the instructions. Definitely a keeper!

Where did that great poster in the living room come from? I've searched for every combination of keywords I can think of, and can't seem to find it! Help!

@ niteflytes - using a space heater is SO cheap! I live in Buffalo, and I've done the research. It only costs about 10 cents per hour to run a space heater.

If you keep your heat set at a lower temp, and only run the space heater when you're home and in the room, it is WAY cheaper than high gas bills! And more efficient -- you needn't heat rooms you're not really using.

after looking at this photo, i wondered whether bringing along some snapshots of your current well-loved (err... well-decorated) apartment might not hurt. Maybe landlords would prefer tenants who are conscientious and respect the aesthetic condition of a home? any thoughts?

Graduated this year, and always had the room (now the apartment) where people want to hang out.

1) SEATING- cushions are perfect for stashing in unseen nooks.
2) MAKE YOUR BED!- the room will instantly look bigger, cleaner, and more inviting.
3) LIGHTING- you and your roommate wont come home at the same time, and it's nice to have some light when you get in without waking up (or being woken up by) the other person. Christmas lights around the ceiling work well, while offering a party vibe when you have friends over.
4) SOUND- you need good headphones (so you and your roommate can study/watch movies/listen to music without bothering each other) and you need good speakers (so you r music sounds good when you have friends over.

That being said, your best times at college wont happen in your dorm room... so dont stress out or break the bank designing it. Also, your friends wont remember what posters you had on your wall, but they will remember the good friends and good times :)

Growing up we always had cats (still do), and we always just left them with a TON of crunchies and a clean litter box (or two). Boarding cats seems traumatic and unnecessary. Cats are independent creatures and they're smart enough to take care of themselves. We always return to kitties who are safe and happier to see us than when we left!

One time my landlord hired a guy to do some work outside our 4-unit house. He blew a fuse and broke into my apartment (1st floor) to gain access to the basement. He left the door to my apartment open, and my 14 year old deaf kitty got out. He didn't even realize he'd done it until he found the cat sitting under his truck. Luckily he called the number on her tag (she put up quite a fight). I got home and everything was back to normal... but it definitely scared me into always being present during repairs.

I once read that when you flush a toilet it sprays bacteria in a 6-foot radius. Since then, I have always put the lid down before flushing. I don't want myself (or my toothbrush) exposed to that. Plus, it's gender-equal because we both have to lift the lid and put it back down when we're done.
