@beanne66: better to check the facts before you criticise. Anyone familiar with a nail boxes knows they are strong enough to hold a child this size. As far as splinters go, these boxes are so vintage as to be smooth as silk.

Thank you, duckeggblue, for an inspiring project. My own Onehunga Nails box is becoming a swing just as soon as I can get out the Ozito. Keep the No. 8 fencing wire projects coming and please don't be discouraged by the AmericanSafetyPolice. Perhaps you could design a gun safe out of another nailbox. *That* might mean a safer child ;)
