I used a hybrid of PODS and moving things myself for my move from NC to NH, and it worked out well. My house in NC was within their service area, so the POD was delivered right to my house. But my house in NH is out in the boonies, so the POD was delivered to their closest storage facility, about an hour away from where I live. For the rest of my move, I enlisted the help of my family (and their SUV) to help me move my stuff from my POD in the warehouse to my new house. My Experience with DIY Long-Distance Moving |

My busybody neighbor, trying to be "helpful," used to call up the various lawn service companies in town for estimates on how much it would cost to improve my (admittedly sparse) lawn. Not just an over-the-phone estimate either -- the companies would actually come out and tromp around my backyard and leave a little note on my door listing everything that was wrong with my lawn. I was in Home Depot shopping for grout a while back, and there was a couple next to me doing the same. The woman says to the guy, "Let's get the white kind. The brown one looks like it would just hide dirt." So I turned to them with my brown grout and said, "That's pretty much what I'm banking on!" They shot me the most disgusted look. I was in a similar situation with an almost identical chair. I ended up buying patio chair cushions that happened to be the exact size and didn't look "outdoorsy." Where To Have Custom Cushions Made? Good Questions |

Ha! My friend had that exact same coffee table -- until my dog gnawed it. I felt horrible; offered to pay for a replacement. But it did give him the incentive he needed to buy a new one... Makeover Ideas for this Lovable 70s "Beast"? Good Questions | Apartment Therapy San Francisco |

I had this same problem -- the dogs knew they weren't allowed on the couch so they were good when I was home. But at night or when I was out of the house, I'd come back to find two warm furry spots on the cushions. How Do You Keep Your Dog Off The Sofa? | Apartment Therapy DC |

Garage conversions are really common here in the south since our climate is so mild. But they don't look nearly as good as the conversions shown here. Usually they still retain that "garage" look in really obvious ways -- bay windows or sliding glass doors right where the garage doors used to be, etc. You're not fooling anyone, buddy... What a timely post! My dryer stopped working a couple months ago and I haven't had time to call someone to fix it yet. So at the moment I'm dryerless; I hang small stuff like socks and underwear on a drying rack and regular clothes on hangers on the shower rod. Sheets and towels I hang over the doors. Only problem so far is towel stiffness. Have You Lived Without a Dryer? Survey | Apartment Therapy Boston |

In our family, Christmas stockings were a kids-only thing. So once my brother and I graduated high school, Mom retired our old stockings. But they were so great for stuffing small gifts into! So now our family has a new tradition: "adult stockings." They're simply wine gift bags filled with the usual stocking-stuffer fare. I got tired of my vinyl shower curtain liners and tub mildewing so quickly, so I bought a hemp shower curtain. It's used without a liner so it's more breathable (no more mildew!). You just wring it out when you're done showering and toss it in the washing machine periodically. Waterproof Fabric Shower Curtain Suggestions? Good Questions | Apartment Therapy San Francisco |
