I replaced my sofabed mattress with an Air Dream inflatable mattress. No more bar in your back, ever. The mattress blows up to 11 inches deep so it takes standard sheets much better than others, and it inflates and deflates in seconds. The only downside is the feel of the air mattress if your partner moves around a lot, but it's firm and you get used to it.

I don't find the e-ink of my Kindle strains my eyes any more than reading a paper book would do. I would not want to read a book that's backlit like the iPad. I spend enough time looking at computer screens as it is.

Totally bulk bin and refill them! McCann's is overpriced in my area stores and Whole Foods bulk is just as tasty. Saves me a lot since I eat oatmeal nearly every day in the cold weather, and the tins get reused so it's greener.

The point is, it's not a new device. It's an iPod Touch large.
The technology is there already. The OS is the same.

I didn't think I'd want one but then ended up getting a Kindle a few months ago, and I LOVE it. I read way more than I did before because it's always in my bag, it's very easy to read one handed on the subway or in bed, it's just the best. My shelves are too full and now I don't have to worry about selling used books to make room, and the price of ebooks makes reading more economical in the long run. And it's greener. Despite the fact that I am a print designer and don't want to see the print industry die - I am loving the Kindle.

I got a 10 piece set of SS from All-Clad. It replaces a 16 year old set of Calphalon Commercial that I never really loved. Some of those pieces went to a friend, others, like the pitted sauce pan, will get put out. But I've coveted the All-Clad for a long time, and now I'm really happy. Love it so far, especially the saute pan (didn't have a piece like it before).

make that 1.5 cups - not 1/5!

I also do the overnight method on the stovetop - but I use 6 cups of water to 1/5 cups oatmeal - and I boil for one minute, shut the fire, cover and leave it. In the morning I add all options but dairy. Usually some brown or raw sugar, and raisins and cranberries but sometimes I use dried apples. For each serving, I add some heavy cream (YUM!) and microwave to heat. It makes enough for nearly a week since I am one person.

I know my place would be gutted and renovated if I ever moved, so I did some DIY renovations on the cheap. I put down vinyl stick tiles on the floor on top of the existing tiles - I "retiled" the countertops, also with vinyl stick tiles cut to 1" square and grouted and coated, it looks like real tile. I painted the walls a vivid color, and added shelving and a hanging rail - it looks GREAT and it all cost about $600. I didn't do anything to the cabinets though.

I grow herbs in a 23 gallon oak fish tank that had been empty of fish for quite awhile. It's lovely to look at, and since I don't get much sun, gives the plants the light they need with the full spectrum bulbs.

I wonder if it would be just as good without the corn syrup, which is the only ingredient and don't have, and don't care to buy.

Does anyone know of malted milk powder that isn't all chemicals and trans fats? I have the Carnation stuff but I'd rather be eating a natural food.

Just a little correction to adiaphane's post - Le Creuset skillets are enameled on the interior as well as exterior. It's just a black enamel. I love mine to death and there is little sticking.

Since everything is so mismatched as it is, I'd try and play up the black/white/green with mosaic tile in that combination. I also have an older kitchen and I brought stainless into it by accent pieces (rail system for gadgets, small appliances and containers, etc.) but I think a whole stainless wall won't work well here.
