Wasn't this kitchen in Metropolitan Home a few years ago? I think I might still have the clipping in an inspiration book somewhere!

My favorite cake - ever. My mother made this for every childhood birthday.

We live in a third-floor walkup in Manhattan and are expecting twins. Our first (now 2 yo) went pretty much from the Ergo straight to shoulders/walking so we never did a lot of stroller with him.

I'm hoping to carry/Ergo the twins for as long as possible, but I don't think we're going to be able to avoid getting a double stroller at some point.

Does anyone have a suggestion for a light double stroller for the twins considering that we 1) live in a walk-up and 2) ride the subway frequently?

If you know anyone who is a Southern Living At Home consultant, ask her. They have lots of tiered racks like this in their catalog.

We started with a diaper service here in Manhattan and quickly went to doing it ourselves. The weekly pickup was 1) not frequent enough and 2) inconveniently timed for us. Ultimately, we ended up using BumGenius pocket diapers, and I wish we'd started with that (would have saved some money). We sometimes use g-diapers when we're out and about, but we've occasionally had problems with having them clog the plumbing. I think for our family the real test will come at the end of the summer when we move to a new apartment and shared laundry facilities.

My experience with cloth versus disposable (other than the absolute shock at how many disposables we go through) is that the cloth is practically leak-proof compared to the disposables. I've found cloth to be very easy to use, and we've had almost no problems with diaper rash.

If you're interested, I would strongly suggest a using a trial program such as the one offered by Jillian's Drawers

This will allow you to try out several different brands to see what will fit your child best.

mjoe - Did you use baking soda in the wash? Or the diaper pail?

We used a diaper service in Manhattan but discontinued before our first month was up because the delivery was so undependable. Both of the services for Manhattan deliver only once weekly, and the diaper pail smelled awful by day 4. At this point we're washing our own cloth diapers at home once every two days (warm pre-wash plus cold wash) and using g-diapers when we're out. I don't find the g-diapers any more difficult than the cloth.

And I would have no problem doing the laundry in shared machines (if my building had them) or having someone else do the same. The real problem to me is that they get horribly stinky if you wait more than 2 days before washing.

Faith - What kind of light are you keeping that in? Does it need full sunlight?

Egg sandwich (2 eggs, cheddar and bacon on whole wheat toast), cappuccino, grapefruit juice. I started craving bacon this week.

Found Little Voice this summer after she had one of those free downloads on iTunes. Loved it! Saw her at Williamsburg Music Hall a few weeks ago and she put on a great show . . .

The most awesome Lucy Woodward opened up for Sara. Check her out too - http://www.lucywoodward.com/

Oh - I had some of these, and I didn't like them at all. I would accidentally bite them, and they had sort of scratchy edges. I was constantly worried about damaging my teeth.

I pack salads in a tall-ish square food storage container from Ikea. I put the dressing in the bottom then layer up with the most wet and dense ingredients at the bottom (tomatoes, olives, garbanzo beans) and the lightest at the top (lettuce). Then I just toss it when I get to work.
