i love houseboating!!! we go every year to either lake shasta or lake powell. something we always grill on the boat is carne asada (skirt steak) that I pre-marinate with salt, pepper, chile powder and lime juice in a zip-lock bag in the fridge. i usually do this about four hours before we start to grill. we make carne asada tacos with chopped onions and cilantro and salsa, and a chipotle crema.

if there are enough leftovers, you can make breakfast burritos the next morning.

for desert - grilled peaches with marscapone and honey cream!

haha totally agree with you Slow Lorus - my Taiwanese mom always made this style of chicken soup with jujubes and it always made me gag. now whenever i smell jujubes it brings back smelly herbal/medicinal memories. i'm surprised that Westerners would find this soup appealing - to me it's like drinking robotussin.

wow thanks for posting this. i've always been a honey and raw sugar user myself, but have contemplated substituting agave syrup. looks like i'll have to do some additional research.

You gotta let the dough rest up a bit (10 -15 min) until it firms up to a consistency where you can scoop a ball of dough and place on a baking sheet. Trying to scoop the dough when it is still somewhat runny will make for thinner cookies.

I totally agree with LoriSF. I bought a duvet cover set in the gray draper stripe and was disappointed by the quality of the fabric. I felt ripped off given the high price tag and also finding out that it was made in China.

i heart rice porridge! growing up in a taiwanese family, my mom and grandma would make theirs with sweet potatoes or yams. my favorite side to eat with porridge is spicy fermented bean curd, which i learned to eat in small nibbles to cut through the blandness of the rice. other good sides are salted preserved duck egg, deep fried peanuts, and pickled bamboo shoots in chili oil.
