I'm going under the same process: we have a spare room at home that we want to use as home office and guest room for all the relatives and friends we have spread around the world. I did a post on my blog just yesterday, trying to find inspiration to start the project, and it's funny I used your exact words: clean and well-organized!

Thanks you for the extra good inspiration!

I wanted to get our kitchen that Scandinavian look I love by changing the cupboard into black (old ruined Ikea cupboards in a yellowish white) and paint a wall of the same colour to use as a blackboard. But, our landlord (and my husband...sigh) did not agree a lot (you know, one for the choice of colour and the other because he knew he had to paint it back to white!). So, as the woman I am I used contact paper for the cupboards and a huge plywood painted with blackboard painting. Ta-da-da! The best of it is the plywood can move around so, when I get tires, I just change its place.

I have to admit my list is quite a long one: the tricky part of being a land arch! ;)
I'd suggest to check some Dianthus: they make lovely shrubs and adapt very easily to any style, only by using a different pot (terracotta pots for country-natural style, black cylinder pots for a contemporary one. If the space is a bit bigger and can have a big pot, Syringa could be perfect. It doesn't grow to a big tree so, with some care, it can be maintained in a container.

I understand it's a cultural thing (still remember the walls full of those in the summerhouse in the Alps) but they scary me a bit. I prefer a fun project metal deer! That's what I opt for.

: )

Love some of your inspiration pictures. Why don't you check Lotta Agaton's kitchen? I think it's a great example of simple, minimal design but looks cozy and with great space to move around (quite an important aspect if you like to mess around in the kitchen..like me!). That kitchen plus some more wood details could be another great inspiration!

Still I think PH5 lamp would fit much better: they should give it a go!

Fill in the Design _________: Pick the Best Lighting for this Dining Room

Among the options, I'd go for number 4: the glass would add some reflections and fun to the room without being too heavy on the final picture. May I be honest? I would have chosen PH 5 pendant lamp by Louis Poulsen: just check the images in this link and tell me if what you think.

I do understand you very well. Sometimes I feel torn between my monochrome aesthetics shaped during the years at the Architecture faculty years, and the experience I had as a volunteer in a art therapy center. I'm in love with those black/ white proposals but cannot stop wondering if, the day I'll have a baby, I will be ok to have that kind of style in the nursery. The good thing is black walls can turn into great painting spaces but is this enough? It'd be great if you could share your opinion or give references, here or anywhere else!

Basic But Bold: Handcrafted
Black & White Baby Decor

This is such a good article! I've been renting since I left my parents' in college and, apart from a little jewel (36 sq real surface and the best finishings ever!) where we lived for a year, the conditions where not so good. Last September we moved to a bigger flat closer to Barcelona city centre and it was great: high ceiling, white door, big windows but... so many faults! Our landlord was not very interested in "exchanging favours" so we had just one choice: fix what we really couldn't stand. Ok, what I really couldn't stand because my husband is much more easygoing! We found lot of inspiration in the internet, especially in blogs and pinterest boards. At the end, thanks to some very good people out there (like Susanna Vento's from Varpunen, Minna of Time of Aquarius, Jennifer from Amerrymishap and Deborah alias a pieceofcake82) we are slowly transforming our rental flat. Sometime you just need the right kind of inspiration, a good dose of creativity, a bit of painting and ...well, that kick to start that you give with this article. I've just finished to paint white our awful brownish bedroom floor and I'm so happy!! Come on, just start! ; )

Great article

YOLO: The Renter's Edition

Such a great list: it was so much fun to go through all the blogs and discover some new ones. There are so many good people out there!
A bit surprised there's not such a great range of my favourite Scandinavian ones: apart from Nikki's Myscandinavianhome (bless the girl!) and Emmadesignblog.
No Susanna Ventos' Varpunen? Oh...Such a pity!!! And Minna's Timeof Aquarius?
I'll add them: go and visit and let me know if they are not worthy!

I love this Ikea bed frame because it's very cheap and this mean you can spend some extra money in personalising it! Then, being so cheap, you are not so afraid to experimenting with it either.
My husband and I bought the double bed frame and upgraded to a daybed for my studio that actually turn into a sofa bed fro guests when needed. The structure came out quite resistant! I plan to paint it and order a mattress cover from Finland to add some Scandinavian twist to the design. Cannot wait!
