Just wanted to add that it's really easy to extend the tube through several floors. I was told that most people hide the tubes in closets, but I installed it this way, and liked it:

I usually give lavender sachets that I make myself. People seem to really appreciate them, long after they've been given.

Hi. I just painted a stove (black). Thought you might want to consider all that happens during the process of applying the fire/heat resistant paint. It's not just that you need special paint, it's that you then have to fire up the stove and heat the unit, thereby curing (rather than simply drying) the paint. This process sends a lot of particles into the air - particles that will embed themselves in that lovely cream color and be difficult to clean.

My vote is to leave it the way it is (or try a row of tiles along the brick for a pop of color) - I also like the corner's Scandinavian feel, and think you could work around it.

Separating and counting the pieces really does help, especially if you organize them in an ice tray.

smencher is a heat-conserving genius. I'm only adding:

1. Insulate your outlets - super easy to do, and inexpensive: http://dinogy.com/entry/31/energy-savings-tip-insulate-your-outlets

2. Space heaters are fantastic.

3. In addition to weather stripping the windows, consider a new round of caulk.

4. Don't wear the flannel pjs to bed. I know this one sounds counter-intuitive, but try it.

Best of luck!

A slightly damp sponge or a rubber glove (the textured-palm kind for doing dishes) gets rid of a whole lot of pet hair, quickly. Might be a good idea before the vacuuming?

Just as an aside: We finally bought a decent mattress and ditched the old one that was giving us back and neck pain. After sleeping on it for a few days, not only do we actually feel rested in the morning, but we feel like we grew a couple of inches!

The old mattress was causing so many back problems, that our mid-sections were compressed - I thought my body was changing in horrible ways (I hadn't gained weight) - and voila, a month later I look like my old self.

For large-scale smell "emergencies" a few bowls of vinegar left out and/or several opened bags of charcoal (clearly, not pre-soaked in lighter fluid) will usually absorb most smells. I'm not sure if they'll work for your problem, corinny, but I do wish you luck and hope the issue is resolved soon.

Yep - absolutely sold an enormous piece, in order to get my place ready to sell (and achieve that "idea of furnished, though not actually entirely furnished" look).

The two pieces I loved, but didn't have room for, I lent to a dear friend...not a bad idea of you are attached to something, but it doesn't fit into your life plans during certain periods of time/circumstances.

Trish, I've heard that sleeping on a freshly laundered pillowcase every night really helps - use one side one night, flip it for the second, then start over with a "fresh-y" the third.

Also, www.cosmeticsdatabase.com has reviews of safe treatments that have worked for others - a great resource for bath + body products too!
