Hi, I'm happy to see my drawer in this post! Although I like the idea with the headphones as well, I don't really like the fact, that you took the picture, which was taken by me and just photoshopped the earphones in there. So, cassielynn you're totally right, I had a light hanging there!
And thanks Puck73 for the translation :)

I did something similar for my daughter and she really loves to change the paintings hanging at her height herself:

hi everybody, thanks you for featuring my bench!

actually you are right, the two elements are exactly the Ikea mini chests, which I painted in shades of red (the back of the drawers are painted white, so we can change them by time).
I just added two pieces of plywood at the bottom and the top, and two pieces on the side, glued it alle together, sanded the corners and finished the rest of the wood with oil.

@kitjule: the fabric with the pink flowers I got in a german online store (, I think it was a japanese fabric from a collection 2007 but they don't seem to sell it anymore.

hi, thanks so much for your lovely comments!
the crib is from a danish company called "leander" and yes, the curtains are on this height mainly because of the radiators - it would waste to much energy and second, we hung them up, when my daughter was one year old and she pulled almost everything down, just in order to stand on her feet - and the curtain didn't seemed to me as the best way to do that...

They actually hang very low, because the jackets underneath are from my two-year old daughter, so the lowest is at 120 cm - therefore you can see very well, what in the drawers. The higher one is at about 150 cm, so you don't get to hurt your head anyway. Also I cut them with a saw, so they don't stick out too far.

Thanks everyone!

@Lesley: Ikea also provides sliding rails for the Besta System, which are quite easily to handle with other doors, because there are just screwed on the back of the door. I posted the whole thing also on my blog under

It was a very practicable DIY, because our one-and-a-half-year-old daughter loves to paint on the chalkboards while I am working on the computer.

Hi there,

well I painted it only half white, because I wanted to keep the industrial look and keep the character of the pallets. The bottom is painted with an clear outdoor oil to keep the wood from falling apart. (sorry for my bad english...).

The two big cushions are made of foam and the slips I sewed out of very sturdy synthetic fiber which look really like rough-textured linen. At night I keep them inside, because the balcony is really a deck leading into a garden and besides we have no roof, there a lots of cats running around and the would love to sleep on the cushions.

I also blogged the whole thing (but in german ;)

We have our radiator covered as you can see here... but not because of the heat, since ours doesn't get really hot. But the radiators a very old and have sharp edges, where a toddler can get hurt really bad.

Thank you so much for the compliments for my hallway! Actually the last two pictures are older (before the renovation) and we had to get rid of the theater seats for a while because of my little daughter, 11 months - they are quite dangerous for a toddler.

The makeover was quite inexpensive - we paid about 150 euros (I live in Berlin, Germany) for everything - the hooks and the mirror I found on Ebay and the book shelf was a DIY which I painted with the wallcolors. The shelf for the shoes is a simple Billy from Ikea. You can see more in my blog over at
