As a designer, I get this question a lot, reupholstering is hot and everyone wants in on the action. I do it A LOT.

While I am all for DIY adventures, there are definitely times when its best to hire a professional, and this is one of them. Despite what all of the Pinterest tutorials will make you believe, there is an art to upholstery and having it done correctly the first time will make the piece last well past the investment you made to redo it.

DO NOT go to the craft store and pick out your own fabric to save money. Different fabrics need different amounts of yardage dependent on a bunch of variables like pattern repeat.

You also want to make sure that the fabric has a really high double rub count and is the correct weight. Double rub is just what it sounds like, a swipe up and down. The higher the number, the more durable the fabric and the longer it will take to show wear. Again, craft stores aren't the place. Yes, they carry lines like Robert Allen, but I assure you that it isn't the same grade of product that is available to the trade. Please don't waste your hard earned money!!

A professional will also give you better quality foam and inform you of upgrades like springs, down wraps, etc that will give you a better sit. Yes, they will cost more but will make the piece last much longer.

Good luck!!

I loooooooove the before kitchen; I understand everyone has different living standards but I can't wait until this "open concept" style dies. Every time I hear the term I cringe.

I also echo the sentiment of saving the cabinets for someone who will appreciate them. You cannot buy anything new like that anymore, please don't pitch them!
