This is nice...I haven't been to Ikea in several years and never would've guessed! I immediately thought it was expensive designer stuff. The room seems very restful & I like the textures and the spots of colors...very different from my taste but I like this.

I think it is worth saving and reupholstering if it is solid construction & you really like it. It will be unique and personal, unlike new furniture which all looks the same and isn't built well.
You could find upholstery fabric in garment centers and on sale & it would be something you like. Research upholsterers, get quotes and ask questions.
Or if you are game you could find an upholstery class and it could be your project. That way you have the guidance of a skilled upholsterer and advice on what fabrics, stuffing, etc. If it is a carpentry/refinishing/upholstery class than you have help there, too.

my favorite part would be seeing the houses out the front window. gave me a feeling of homesickness for my home state ...neighborhoods with a variety of old houses...and, snow.

I have two of the most comfortable vintage sofas both from thrift stores bought several years ago (before the bedbug scene) and they cost about $250 total. They weren't pretty but I knew they were quality (there are ways to test) & had the shape I love. Because of kids I knew they were going to take a beating (trampoline!) so I only used slipcovers. Soon they will get restuffed & reupholstered.

As the saying goes, "everything old is new again". Subway tiles & butcher blocks have been around for years. I'm retro so never cared about current trends & don't care about resale. Yeah, I like ceramic tile counters, evil grout and all. I can put hot pans all over it and not worry.
Never liked granite...reminds me of graveyard headstones, will be glad to see that trend disappear.

I like cozy and so no big mcmansion house for me if I won the lottery. I like the apartments/small homes shown on AT and they seem to be the most creative. We live in a small house which I love, even 'tho we need another br.
The big houses with the huge "big warehouse room" and sky high ceilings make me very uncomfortable...I'd cry if I had to live in a house like that.

I've read about The Florida Highwaymen paintings before from somewhere & liked a lot of the paintings I saw. I really like the last one with the palm tree above.

This would have to be one of my favorite tours..it's real and natural, vintage-y and colorful. I find the vignettes charming & with personal meaning to her from her descriptions. Marianne is such a beautiful lady with porcelain skin & lovely hair and what amazing vintage clothes! Plus, she loves one of my favorite authors...I have two vintage copies of "The Egg & I". :)

I wonder if the flea markets will reduce their prices on vintage furniture now that there is a bug bed epidemic? Could bargain with that..hee.

My sentiments exactly! How can you teven tell its a 100 year old farmhouse? Certainly hope they donated the knotty pine and other 100 year old features to the ReStore for someone else to use and not throwing more perfectly good stuff into the landfills.
There's a great show on a certain house channel called, "You live in what?"..these visionaries take incredibly deteriorated historic buildings, saving them from demolition and developers and restoring them for their homes...they have a great respect for those who came before them who built these & the history of the place. They salvage as much of the buildings & features as they can..it is very inspiring, especially since the homeowners do the majority of the work themselves.

I know someone who had same sliding doors on the tub that she removed & replaced with curtains. It really helps when you have little kids to bathe & cleaning since the doors limit your movement.
I like curtains for combo tub/shower but for very small shower stalls they do seem to billow against you all the time...and, the mildew free liners still got mildew...we have a trackless door now but unfortunately, they are $$...we do squeegie door/tiles after showers.

I know I'm hundred years late on this post (just discovered AT), but this vintage beauty of a house just makes me want to say thank god it is still preserved, especially in L.A.! The Art Deco arches, cabinets, and tiles are wonderful (black tile in pink bath is a bit wonky but could be from earthquakes & repairs)...anyway, too much of L.A. architectural history & charm is being obliterated just for the sake of bigger. To live in one of these charmers would make one feel how it once was for those in the Golden days of the movie industry.

When I was a kid we slid down my friend's carpeted staircase on flatten cardboard boxes. Of course, it was fun but I remember also hitting the wall and a potted plant from the momentum..just as her mom walked in.

Love San Francisco and love this pretty historic apartment...fresh, light and airy. What a great find. She has a nice balance of frothy colors with the grays and the touch of whimsy like the knitted cactus. :) Well done.
I'd want to sit in that awesome blue/green chair by the window all the time.

I like the "before"...has more character and could look pretty cool in the right setting. Not that I don't love painted furniture, I do...just sometimes it looks like shiny plastic.

Cool house with unique personality...and, love the cozy nooks & crannies, the different angles and the french doors leading out to the garden and the turquoise steps...I think I have to come back 'cause I like this peaceful feeling I'm getting looking at it. :)
