Super-sticky lined Post-its. They stick to anything, so I keep half a pad stuck to my fridge at all times.

I can't believe some people love going to Ikea. I can't stand any big box store, Target, Wal-Mart, Home Depot, etc. They're just too damned big, too crowded, too overwhelming.

980sf loft 400sf patio downtown for $1600 a month. We have to pay for parking, so that pushes the total to $1800, but I still feel like we got a good deal.

The definition of cheap really depends on your vantage point. You can get a really cheap place in Antelope Valley, eastern San Gabriel Valley, the Inland Empire, etc., but would you be willing to live there?

Jose, El Sereno is also crazy cheap and a nice community, plus a lot of artists are moving in. And you have the coffee house on Huntington Drive, too.

I have a big print I want to hang over my bed but don't want to frame because I'm also in earthquake country. Anyone have suggestions better than thumbtacking it to the wall?

Reminds me too much of dim sum in Chinatown.

Yay!! I'm so happy this made the finals. My favorite entry by far. I used to live in a place this size and I'm truly impressed by how you've made it work.

If this doesn't win, I'll be shocked. Perfect combo of beauty and efficient use of space. The only thing I don't like is the brown bathroom, but that's just me (reminds me too much of poo to use in that space). Otherwise, this is brilliant.

A lot of people swear by Flylady.net. When you sign up, you get daily emails reminding you to complete a small task. Really small--things like scrub your sink or put away your laundry. The idea is that baby steps will get you to a clean home, and it's much more manageable than tackling it all at once.

Not furniture, but I found a beautiful vintage silk cheongsang from the 60s. It was tagged at $5, but there was a sale at the thrift shop that day so I got it for $2.50.

I have one of those openers and the are indeed the coolness.

My husband uses empty baby food jars for his odds and ends, and it's better than these cans because the lids screw on.

1,307 people died falling down the stairs in the United States in 2000.

The stairs look beautiful but I'll be damned if I'm risking my life just to have a cool design element in my home. That's nuts.

West Elm is out of the 8'x10' size in all colors (sob). Any suggestions for other cool and inexpensive outdoor rugs?

Try craigslist too. I found a cleaner named Jesus on craigslist, and he showed up at my apartment on Easter to clean up--seriously! This was during my the last weeks of pregnancy and I wanted my place clean before bringing the baby home. Jesus did a miraculous job (sorry, couldn't help myself). Very thorough, and a very reasonable price. He had kids of his own that he was supporting and it felt good to pay him directly, knowing he would get all the money.

mjoe, Steven Spielberg's mom used to let him create sets in her kitchen for his Super-8 film epics, including dripping fake blood all over her cabinets. Hey, you never know what your son's rubber band piles will lead to.

I need help wrangling paper. I dealt with it okay when I was single but now that I do paperwork/bills for the whole family, I'm drowining in unfiled paper. I don't want photos of pretty file cabinets, I want ideas on how to organize what goes into the file cabinets.

I just moved with a one-year-old toddler and believe me, professional movers are worth every penny. I used Delancey Street Movers, which has been written up on AT in the past. Can't say enough good things about them. Courteous, careful and fast.

I just moved into a loft with a ventless washer/dryer combo and it takes three hours to do six pounds of laundry. Plus heavy items like jeans and towels never get completely dry. Oy. I just bought a drying rack from Ikea so I guess it'll be okay, but I think my sheets are going to the laundry down the street.

I don't like McMansion kitchens either, but those appliances are old (not vintage, old) and the kitchen is poorly laid out and doesn't look very functional. I adore vintage, but at $699 the place has to be better maintained than this, esp. in this market. I saw a three bedroom foreclosure in Silverlake listed at $499 and it was in much better shape.
