Not really moving advice, but just in general, definitely buy the modem on amazon or whatever rather than renting. I was renting one for 8 dollars a month or something and realized it was ridiculous so I just looked up the exact same make and model and bought it for 40 dollars. I've had it for over a year now and it works fine.

I remember touring a potential apartment with my roommate (it would have been my first ever, while in college) and it looked agreeable enough, but not quite what we were looking for. The landlord gave us the application and we took it, he didn't know that we had basically crossed it off our list in our minds. Totally unprovoked he said "And just so you know, I want to tell you before some of the other residents do, there was a double murder/suicide in this unit a few months ago." Um...that's a definite pass.

Ack -- going through this now -- luckily my partner is pretty laid back but I can't help feeling like a bossy nag. I feel like when I ask him "What are we going to do with your stuffed Garfield collection", he already knows that I'm trying to suggest we hide it in the garage...

Big big big one is cell phone service. I always forget to check when renting a place. I've been stuck in places where you have to hang out a window or stand just so to get a decent conversation. It might be kind of nit-picky but it's something to think about.
