I recently bought a storage bed that's VERY similar to the Pottery Barn model (except it's got three drawers on each side instead of two drawers in the front). I bought it at an unpainted furniture store in New Jersey for about $800. It's a full size bed and it's made of solid Alder wood. It's high quality and very sturdy. I didn't get a headboard, but there are options for that too. Of course, I had to stain it myself, but that way I got the color I wanted too. You might try that route.

I recently painted the outside of my clawfoot tub black. First sanded it with 60 grit, then 220 grit sandpaper, then primed and painted it with Rustoleum spray paint. Very easy and cost effective. Came out amazing.
