That cordless rechargeable vacuum that Swiffer makes is my best friend. Fully charged, this thing runs for about five minutes, which is all you need to make a quick run around your home to pick up fur and grit between your weekly vacuuming with the big machine. It makes such a huge difference.

I second the sisal rug vote. They're fantastic for large dogs and would look great in that space. At the same time, I'd take the time to invest in some new throw cushions for your couch. That purple one is likely creating some weird vibe with the blue-grey walls and black leather.

I recently moved to Sweden and was immediately struck by how many candles are used here. In particular, I love that many shops have them burning outside their doorways in large lanterns during the dark winter months. Many cafes and restaurants will have them burning in the middle of the afternoon! It makes everything feel so warm and cozy.
