I live in the country (hi-elevation rural NM) but work in ABQ. The downsides are hella winters where you may be stuck at home for days, strong fire potential in the early summer, a long drive or train ride commute, air card-only internet (no cable, no DSL, no nothing) and when we run out of milk, there's no "I'll just run to the store." The upside: wildlife, hummingbirds galore, an abundance of mountain wildflowers in the summer, cool weather when the monsoons start, and a feeling of being slightly on vacation whenever I get home. All that said, I think I would choose mid-size town over the country if I had it to do all over again, especially for the improved internet access. City or Country: Nothing in Between! |

From a USFWS wildlife biologist buddy of mine, there are two varieties of hedgehog, the English (European) one, that estivates through the winter, and an African one that does not. The fear in warmer states, such as CA, is that the African hedgehog, if released into the wild, would become an invasive species. This concern (becoming invasive) also extends to ferrets. Think rabbits in Australia or mongoose in HI. Trend Prediction: What Do You Think is The Next Big Thing? |
