oh i feel so bad writing this cause i have a kitchen full of awesome teema...but fiskars group, which now owns and manufactures the teema line, is making more and more of it in asia, and is increasingly dodgy about it. i say this because my last order of white teema from Iittala contained dinner plates, cups and saucers, a teapot, and a milk jug (and of course it's all wonderful)...but it is all from thailand. i worry that fiskars is tarnishing this great line and i'd like them to be more transparent about their practices (for a lot of reasons). it's such an important design, emblematic of finland (and marketed as such), and so i must admit that i was sad to pay for finnish production, design, history, and craft, and receive...well i don't know.

i suppose it's like ordering a le creuset pot from the manufacturer in france...or even the new fiesta ware....and opening the box to find that it's not what they said? i'm not against outsourcing, but in certain instances, where regional ties are strongly emphasized, i think it means something to the customer. even having the option to know that certain lines or items are from elsewhere would be great. i make this complaint out of love for the line. i'd like fiskars to give a little more respect to Iittala and its workers :)
