I bought my first house sight unseen. It was a gut rehab, and the guy in my office had renderings. I bought it immediately. Then after work, I drove to the neighborhood to see my new shell. It took me nine months to finish, and five years later I sold it for twice what I paid. And it's still my favorite house ever.

The condo I'm in now I bought on my first visit. The car I'm driving I saw across an interstate sitting on a car lot. I turned around at the next exit, went back and bought the car.

Dinner? It takes me a week to decide where I want to go, and an hour with the menu. Go figure.

Have You? Would You?

Have you considered just boiling your water? Boiling will kills cysts (google it), and boiled water is better hygiene all around.

I dislike water filters because all water has to travel through the already collected gunk. That doesn't all appeal to me.

I gave up an automatic ice maker to boil all the water for drinking and ice. I have an enormous Le Creuset stock pot for boiling water that I call my cistern.

I am a major organizer and I rid myself of items on a continuing basis. But there are items you should never throw away.

Jeans - There is pretty much no reason to discard jeans. Keep them all. No exceptions.

Sweaters - Keep all cashmere, 100% wool, and 100% cotton sweaters.

I'd like to see what other people won't discard.
