my room is a medium-coral hue, but what has really made the difference for my sleeping pattern was my purchase 5 years ago of the Simmons Beautyrest mattress. along with a fibre-bed topper and 400-thread-count sheets, it's like sleeping on a cloud.

My mother was a senior wine consultant with the Liquor Control Board of Ontario and the yearly seminar for all wine consultants is held in January in Niagara Falls. One of the "highlights" (from my mom's point of view) would be the times the consultants would be awakened in the middle of the night because it was the optimal time to pick the grapes for ice wine. Buses would line up at the hotel and ferry them to wineries in the area to assist with the harvest.

lorint, i got the Sealy "bowling ball" mattress with a 3-inch layer of memory foam on it 5 years ago. i found it WAY too hot to sleep comfortably, so i got a fibre bed seeing as i'm allergic to feathers.

those two purchases have been the best of my life; i have never slept so well. i always tell people that i have the world's most comfortable bed! :-)

the apt i shared in Ottawa with my sister. it was in a 1970s concrete monolith with horrid windows but it was 3 bedrooms and 2 baths and we had a HUGE balcony that wrapped around the entire unit - 43 feet long on one side, 27 feet on the other. one door leading out from the living room and one from my bedroom. from May to October we all but lived out there with a massive garden-in-the-sky.

the best part was the view from our 19th floor unit; straight up the Rideau Canal to Parliament and the Laurentian foothills beyond. we often had dozens of guests at our Canada Day parties and for flight-watching during the balloon festival.

i moved to Canada's London 7 years ago for work and my sister moved to a place closer to her office near the Supreme Court.

the day i moved, i stood out on that balcony in the brilliant sunshine of a frigid February morning looking at the canal crowded with skaters; i think i cried for the first 100 km of the 700 km drive across southern Ontario.

unfortunately, i am away through Sunday and won't accomplish any tasks for the remainder of the week. however, i did buy an organizer for my sewing/crafting area that will free up shelves for books - books that are still in boxes since i moved 4.5 years ago. while unpacking, i can figure out which to keep and which to take to the reseller.

i am picking up the hardware for my Ikea Rast dressers at Lee Valley Tools this weekend! beautiful ring pulls and fancy corners to dress them up after lacquering them in black! :-)
