Great reminder that I need to pick up a less bright+warmer toned bulb for my new bedside lamp. And remember NOT to throw old bulbs in the trash - especially not energy-saving ones!!

Day 17: Looking at Living Room Lighting Apartment Therapy January Cure
1/24/13 10:13 AM

I have an empty binder sitting in my cabinet waiting for all the important papers - not that I have many, but now that (for the first time in my life) my name is on an insurance policy AND an apartment lease, I need to get my binder together :)

ALSO: my kitchen table arrived tonight! No longer have to eat, study, read, sleep and lounge in my bed. Will probably still prefer bed over chair+table, but hey, it's always nice to have a choice.

Day 14: Get Papers & Files in Order Apartment Therapy January Cure
1/21/13 2:19 PM

Phew. This won't be hard at all for me. I just bought a new mattress 2 weeks ago, so it's still very fresh and clean. I also washed my duvet and pillows at the same time, so they're fresh too. And I put on new bedlinen yesterday - so this is an easy-peasy weekend for me. I'll spend my time unpacking the last boxes from my moving, getting rid of more stuff (hopefully) and make things nice. Oh - and I'm planning on going to IKEA on my day off on Monday....

Day 13: Weekend Chores - Flowers & Bedroom Apartment Therapy January Cure

Managed to squeeze (ehem: arrange) all my booksinto one bookshelf - used to need two. About 20 are sitting in a bag to go with me to the charity shop this afternoon with some stuff from my outbox. I need to get all my cd:s transferred into my computer before I can weed through them - since I don't even have a proper cd player I think I'll get rid of all of them :)

Day 12: Declutter Books & Media Apartment Therapy January Cure
1/18/13 6:43 AM

Ha ha, this is not happening tonight... I'm finishing two papers for uni so I'll be needing my computer for work (and pause-browsing apt therapy/pinterest).

I don't have a tv, so that's easy, but I find that it's hard not to use my computer in the evening. One of the reasons, I find, is that I don't have any good spots to read here in my new place. The light by my bed is too weak, and I don't have anywhere else that's comfy enough for reading/relaxing before bed. So that needs to go on my list of projects: get a lamp for reading in bed!

Day 11: Try a Media Fast Apartment Therapy January Cure
1/16/13 3:34 PM

You read my mind! I just finished my project this morning (evening here already...). My bookshelf that until today was bright (BRIGHT) red is now a relaxing white-going-on-beige and ready for all my books when the paint has set properly (tomorrow evening).

I love this! When I was 16 my mum trusted me to re-paint my own room in whatever way I fancied - I painted the celing a wonderful murky dark green, in each corner of the room i used the same colour to create a big tree (stem and branches, no leaves) from floor to ceiling, and the walls in between a creamy white. I loved that room, and I love trees indoors.

I already have the mirror, a small shelf for shoes, key hangers and use the top of my dresser (which is in the landing strip and holds all my folded clothes) as a mitten/hat/wallet area. Need to put a few nice bowls for change and misc items I carry around in my bag, but also need when I'm at home (aka lipstick...). I hang my coat in my built-in closet, which is also in the landing strip, and also holds my outbox. So this is pretty much done for me if I find a few nice bowls!

Quick update: after unpacking all of my kitchen stuff, outbox-ing a great deal of it, cleaning lots of dishes & putting everything in its place I now have a kitchen (even though it's not really a kitchen, its one of the corners of my 1-room apt/studio). Thrilled to be able to actually cook/eat in my (new) home :)

Day 8: Weekend Chores - Flowers, Kitchen Cleaning & Make Yourself a Meal Apartment Therapy January Cure
1/13/13 5:01 PM

Friday! I got a major head start on this weekend's chores, because: my flowers are still looking awesome, I just moved in this wednesday so my kitchen is still spotless (since I haven't used it yet) and I'm doing a massive decluttering as I unpack, and yesterday I picked up ingredients for the latest chickpea/carrot salad recipe on 101coookbooks.com

Sharing my quick to-do list here: buy (even more) vinegar+spray bottle, throw out everything in my outbox, buy white paint for my bookshelf & measure the poster I want to frame as my art piece before the 29th. Happy weekending, everyone!

I just moved in to a new place, and two friends just got a place pretty much across the street, so we're planning a double moving-in party with dinner at their place and cocktails/dancing at mine. First weekend of Feb is already fully booked with parties in our circle of friends, but the next one after that has to be it! Whoop whoop!

Day 7: Get Your Get-Together Together - Date, Guests, Invites Apartment Therapy January Cure - Day 7
1/10/13 11:59 AM

I also chose those round-leafed green things (they smell so good!) for my bouqet!
So.far my challange is that even though I really enjoy getting rid of things and declutter, I get caught up in saving sooo much stuff because a) guilt, and b) not wanting to be one of the consumerists who mindlessly throw stuff out because they're bored with it. So I tend to get caught up in an inner conflict of wantig to live more minimalist, but not really dare to do it because I'm afraid of being this "bad person". Not sure if that made any sense..

@PGF Try using a big, soft makeup brush - like a powder or blush brush ( clean and dry, ofcourse) to gently sweep.the dust off of your painting.

Day 6: Choose a Piece of Artwork & Get Going on Framing It Apartment Therapy January Cure
1/9/13 4:42 PM

I'm a student, so for me everything is about staying within my limited budget. I get my frames at flea markets and thrift stores, they're usually quite pretty and cheap too. As for what goes inside the frames I use posters, postcards, thrifted finds and hand-me-down art work from my mother's house. It's definitly possible to have a home covered in artwork without spending very much at all - it's mostly just a matter of knowing what you like/want and being a bit creative with your thrift store finds :)
I have a couple of framed pieces that I want to hang over my kitchen table. Looking forward to the 29th!

Day 6: Choose a Piece of Artwork & Get Going on Framing It Apartment Therapy January Cure
1/9/13 10:46 AM

Hi everyone, this is my very first commment on here, I just joined just so that I could shre my progress in the January Cure with you :)
I'm in themiddle of moving in to my very first all-mine apartment. It's a really tiny (250sqft studio with a lot of nice details (big window! Big hotel-y bathroom!) and a few flaws (ugly floors and noisy fridge...). So basically the only thing on my day one-list was to move in all my stuff and actually make this a home. Which is kind of a massive (not to mention unclear) project. So to break things down and choose something for today's assignment I've decided to paint my bright red bookshelf (which my grandpa made for my mum when she was three) in a more neutral tone to match the rest of the interior. When I figure out how to share pics on here I'll post some before-pics so you can follow my progress!
