Diverse as the people!? Ha! I loooved living in Portland, but there really isn't a lot of diversity there. I left in 2009. The rental market wasn't good, but not as bad as Los Angeles, where I moved to. I lived in the NW alphabet district, which I would highly recommend. I had good luck finding good rentals through craigslist, and just walking around the neighborhood and calling the numbers on signs for units for rent. I hear things have gotten worse in the rental market, but it's not nearly as bad as DC or LA or NY. Everybody I knew in Portland who would complain about the rental prices never actually lived in a bigger or equal sized city before. I'm paying twice as much for half the space in LA. The person who complained that being sick with pets is comparable to this does NOT speak for all childless by choice people. Heck, the reason I don't have kids is because I know they are a LOT of work. Another reason I don't want kids--the incredibly low bar we have for fathers. Really, 2 meals a day is ok?!?! No, it's not. Huge mess, no showers, tangled hair, fine. Not preparing their lunches--not okay. My father was capable enough to run the house better than this when my mother got sick--and he was MUCH more old school than most fathers today. My recommendation--family counseling. If he is able to not be fired from his job, he is able to occasionally pitch in for the mother better than this. Mommy's Not Allowed to Get Sick: How to Be Sick When You Can't Call in Sick |

Just because a movie is old and for children does not mean people cannot or should not find offense with it. This article just recently came out and does a very good job of explaining the problems with the movie--and even explains the positive attributes of the movie.
