Oh and yes, my mum wouldn't feed me mad crazy Kale, Quinoa etc... I was fed, cabbage, and pulses etc but sensibly so. You can't give a child a massive protion of Umami lukewarm grains and be offended if the child doesnt like it. Just good normal food, mash potatoes, chops, pork or lamb, buttered vegetable, spaghetti bolognese, shepherds pie, Heinz tomato soup sometimes too! Homemade chicken pies, beef, steak and ale, fish fingers and beans, salads. I was told broccoli were baby trees when I asked what they were (I loved trees and never asked or questioned them again), and now broccoli is still my favourite. And if I had breadcrumbed chicken , it was homemade schnitzel. My mum was full time working single mother. It was my normal. In Defense of \"Kid Food\" |

This is such an interesting article that I just had to comment. I haven't even read all of the comments yet but HCL, I agree a lot with what you have said. when I was a kid dinner was made and served and I ate. I ate 3 times a day and good nutritious food. NO messing, no tantrums. I got what was for dinner and that was that, If there was some part of dinner that I didnt want, I would leave it. Maybe next time it was served I would eat it. I didnt like fish (what kid does... not many), but I would eat fish fingers and cod fillets in parsely sauce. mmm nice and savory. My mum told me that when I first moved on to solid food when I was really tiny, she would just cook everything totally bland for herself with no salt, puree it and I would get the same. ALL homemade. I also got to have birthday parties in mcDonalds. which I adored. Read it and understand. Maccy dee's once.a.year. I ended up thinking that you could only go if it was your birthday. Yes there were things that I didnt like coffee, mushy peas, basically anything slimy olives, anchovies etc, but now as an adult, I am as I was as child - a good all rounder, will eat anything pretty much, dont eat any meat at all but do eat fish. don't have dairy very often (lifestyle choice nothing more), but if I want a cheese toastie I will have it there are two things that I dont like much, Okra, and dried oregano. but if its there, its there, eat don't moan. Its how I was brought up. In Defense of \"Kid Food\" |

Well I am rather clean and tidy with my bedroom already but I will dutifully change over my bedlinens to fresh clean new ones, along with the flowers. I will also take down and wash the curtains and re hang them, with some lead weights in the bottom. (thats one of my jobs on the list from Day One. I will also try and upholster my bedroom chest (another job from the list), and sort and clear out under the bed, thats the main "deep-clean" needed in my bedroom... also has anyone ever tried those vacuum sucky bags to flat pack and store clothes.. ? they are amazing!! Ouchie, this is a painful one, like many of the commenters here my collection of books and magazines is much prized and loved, (I once cried when a fashion assistant made tear-outs from a limited collection commemorative issue of Harpers Bazaar) made to remember the life of princess diana. Let alone that she de-valued it to WORTHLESS.... hummm, that said, I did have a stack waiting in my outbox of magazines which I sorted out yesterday during my "techno freeze", said Outbox also currently contains an entire boxed set of the whole Sex in the city series (which I will put on ebay) I don't actually own a video player anymore, and finally the sorting of my bookshelves which I don't have time to do right now, will form part of my weekends assignments to myself along with whatever new gem the January Cure comes up with.... Oooooh this January cure get's better and better. Sleeves rolled up and digging right in. I have planned some much needed "me time' tomorrow, a run early morning, first class of my spanish course until lunchtime at my local library. Then I will reward myself with a nice pooch around the shops and a little treat (I have my eyes on a shirt in zara) in the afternoon for just a short while. Saturday evening will be "kitchen blitz" time for me and so I will get stuck right in, starting with my fridge..... I am so super excited about this part, I really enjoy entertaining and will relish this, I have discussed it all with my husband and he unfortunately isn't excited or behind me on either the get together or the January cure although he will be living both the cure and the party because he lives here (and for no other reason) so... tough for him I guess... I am doing peruvian ceviches and non alcoholic cocktails.... Day 7: Get Your Get-Together Together - Date, Guests, Invites Apartment Therapy January Cure - Day 7 |

Wonderful cure for the day, I have an amazing piece of art that was available as a one off commission by the local (to my part of London) area artists Gilbert and George, on the internet via a special website for only 24 hours... I downloaded it years ago and in typical Gilbert and George style its a series of 9 A4 frames designed to be shown as one big picture, I bought the frames in the lead up to christmas last year so all that I have to do now is choose some fab paper and get my graphic designer stepdad to print it up for me. SO exciting, can't wait! Day 6: Choose a Piece of Artwork & Get Going on Framing It Apartment Therapy January Cure |
