Getting our groceries delivered is the best way to help my husband not impulse buy. He is a sucker for a 'deal' ... But he is also very good at keeping receipts, and I am very good at talking to sales clerks "my husband thought I would like this, but he was wrong..."

For my wear-again clothes I have a great full-length mirror that has a valet bar behind it, so the mirror sticks out about a foot from the wall, and you can hang clothes behind it. i admit, I usually just drape them over. it's fantastic, since you can't really see the clothes form the rest if the room because the mirror hides them. No idea where to buy one; it came with the house

in the Bedroom

One of the advantages of trying to live frugally so we can afford an at-home parent... Can't buy too many clothes, so not very many to go through! However, our big project this month is building a storage space in our attic, and so we have boxes and bins everywhere in the bedroom as we try to decide what goes in the attic, the Outbox, or back in the closet. A deep clean is not going to happen...just cleaning around stuff this weekend.

Hmm. This one will have to wait a few days. Our big project has completely messed up the house, and I can't even reach the bookshelves right now. We don't have very many, but the problem right now is my work books. They're taking over!

Day 12: Declutter Books & Media Apartment Therapy January Cure
1/17/13 9:20 PM

Did this, with only one tiny slip up when I first got home (oops!). Really, I couldn't believe how many times I just wanted to check something, I will be making a media fast a weekly event.

Also, finished the man part of my big project: building an attic storage space. Now I get to decide what goes up there and in what order. Need to go buy some more clear storage boxes.

Got more than half the cupboards deep-cleaned and purged before DH pulled me into his big project: an attic reno that consumed the rest of the weekend and spread dust ALL over my nice clean floors! Oh, well - he's building me more much-needed storage space.

Cooking did not happen...pizza, pizza, and supermarket chicken, but we have plans for a nice dinner tonight.

We have this, but it needs to be tidied up a bit. The key & change bowl has some receipts and other things (coupons, maybe?) that needs to get cleared out. I should also move some of the not-now coats into the back room, but the weather keeps changing, so it's hard to know what to keep out.

My problem is my work bag, which is too big and heavy to hang on the hooks, but doesn't have a home. We're rearranging some of our shelving this month as part of our project, so I'm thinking I need to carve out a permanent home for this bag.

I also want to buy a nice key bowl, but my husband has something particular in mind, and is keeping an eye out for that already, so it will have to wait!

Jumping in last night, I got way more done than I was expecting to. I tried viewing cleaning as a 'workout' and tried to move fast enough to get my heart rate up. That worked, and I didn't dawdle or get distracted as easily. So, ready for another early morning kitchen 'workout' - off I go!

Oooooo, not sure if this will get done this weekend; we're doing some work on our attic. Hmm. Might as well get a start, though!

I have the opposite problem with my kitchen floors: they're this strange mottled grey, purposely pitted tile (on my long-term list of things to replace...not my style!). The things is, they NEVER look dirty. They hide an incredible amount of disgusting stickiness. Once my seven-year-old spilled an entire glass of juice in his corner of the kitchen, and "wiped it up" by spreading it around, then didn't tell anyone. I admit, I don't go there...it's his spot. When it came time for my weekend floor wash, and I stepped into that corner...my foot stuck to the floor. I seriously couldn't tell that anything was spilled there, but my floor-cleaning cloth sure showed me when I wiped it up. Yuck,

We bought a sweet little print on our honeymoon... 13 years ago! It's not a typical size, so I'll have to take it to a professional to get it done.

Day 6: Choose a Piece of Artwork & Get Going on Framing It Apartment Therapy January Cure

Putting in an attic access ladder this weekend, as well as upgrading the attic flooring so we can start to use it for storage. In reality, this is a help-my-husband project, but I have been working hard on choosing what can go up into the attic, and what should be stored in the main floor. We don't have a basement, so this extra storage space is going to make a HUGE different to the state of our closets, laundry room, and garden shed.

Day 5: Select One Project from Your List to Complete this Month Apartment Therapy January Cure

I sat in the door to our bedroom. It was amazing to really look at what we see each time we step into that room. It doesn't help that the first thing there is the big, unneeded dresser, which is both in the Outbox...and my Outbox itself. Also need to get rid of the headboard, and generally clear out the closet, which doesn't currently close!

Day 4: 10 Minutes Critiquing My
Living Room

I'm actually feeling pretty happy about my main room right now - but only because we've just finished all the plans and budgeting for a complete re-do. Now that my (practically) perfect living room is in sight - though it won't be done for a year and a half! - I find that I "see" it as it will be and not how it is right now!

Split my flowering plants from the UGLY Christmas elf/snowman planter they came in and repotted in three matching white planters, which are now in three different rooms in the house: front entry, kitchen, and main room.

DH got the tree out and swept the main room for me :) so I managed to wash the entry, hallway, bathroom, and main room yesterday. Also did the baseboards, which led to the door frames, and even part of the wall - the dog's favourite spot to lie down under the desk was soooo dirty! Hadn't been down there in a while to see it!

Goals for today: wash my son's bedroom floor, and move more things to my Outbox. My bedroom floor will get swept but not washed this weekend since DH is starting phase one of our mini-reno project in there on Wednesday.

Day 3: Treating My Home to Flowers & Green Cleaners Liveblogging the January Cure

As an only child, I still had bunk beds growing up, though the bottom bed was convertible from a couch to a second bed for sleepovers - my cousins came to stay a lot! I loved it - it made a special area just for sleeping. We used a duvet with cover instead of a top sheet, and just washed the cover each week with the sheets, so it was easier to make, though still a bit if a hassle.

My only child has a high loft bed, which doubles his play space! Maybe because I'm used to the loft, I don't mind climbing for goodnight cuddles. A hood reading light is key!

Are Bunkbeds Worth It?
1/5/13 7:08 AM

Washed my kitchen floor yesterday - really washed, right to the edges and under things. What a job! Hope to tackle the bathroom and hallways today, just leaving the main room and bedrooms for tomorrow...but need my DH to get the undecorated tree outside first!

Bought a flowering plant yesterday, cheap in a Christmas pot, so I'm off to repot it in the planter of the last plant I killed!

My dresser is the first thing in my Outbox. Other than socks and underwear, it hasn't had anything in it since we updated our closets. I hid the Christmas presents in there, so now it's empty. I'm going to also declare it my Outbox for a little while, too.
