I've already hung up a few pictures around the house during this month. Mainly on my stairway which I've intended for a mini gallery for a while now. Not quite done but pleased with my efforts so far. So tonight I didnt hang any artwork but I did hang the new clock I bought in a January sale. Does that count?

There's been a few comments about the 3M strips. I've used them for a few pictures around my house as its really difficult to get hooks in the walls without drilling with a masonry bit. British councils built some solid houses in the 50s! I've had no problems but I only started using them a couple of years ago and on nothing too heavy.

I moved a lamp from our spare bedroom that hardly gets used and put it on a side table in the living room. Looks loads better and it means the lamp is actually getting used.

I just finished this task today. I ordered a post a key holder from Amazon which my husband put up on the wall next to our cost rack. I also re-purposed a decorative bowl that had been languishing in a box which is on the table by the phone for change and other bits and pieces. Hopefully this system will work!

A summer cure would be fantastic. I'll definitely want to get involved.

I just posted on the main task page that I didn't know how to get a third light in my living room. Your bookcase lamp could be the answer.... To Ikea!

Your living room looks really cosy and welcoming. I am also loving the Anchorman reference.

Also being English I have no idea what drywall is. If I need to get more outlets we have to cut into the wall but that's pretty standard here. My house is only 1950s but is really lacking in outlets so everything runs off extension cables.

I luckily already have my overhead light on a dimmer switch with a fairly warm coloured bulb (we had to get an energy saving bulb that specifically worked with dimmers otherwise it makes a scary buzzing noise). I also have a floor lamp but that's it at the moment as I don't really have anywhere else I can put another lamp. The living room is on my project list for this year so will see what I can do then.

In the meantime I'm going to get a floorlamp for an empty corner of the dining room as it looks quite bland at the moment.

There's quire a mess of cords in front of my TV as both my husband and I plug our phone chargers in there. So I've moved a little used extension cord from the spare bedroom and plugged it in behind the bookcase. Its not perfect but it has made things look a lot tidier.

Eurgh. Been dreading this task. I'm quite bad with my paperwork but my husband is terrible, he never opens anything. We both have a habit of stashing paperwork around the house. Some is on the bookcase, some in the trunk we use as a coffee table and some is stacked by our files with the intention of filing them properly at some point in the future. When post comes in it can be put in any one of 3 different locations!

We pay most of our bills by Direct Debit which means we don't miss any payments and have been setting up as much as possible online now.

I've now got my mail holder to put up in the hallway so at least we can keep post in one place. Junk mail goes straight into the recycling so that's not too bad. I've decided that as we don't really use the files we have I am just going to replace them with some Ikea boxes. It might not be too organised but it will work for us and at least keep everything in one place.

One thing I did do a while ago was put a lot of our appliance manuals onto the iPad following this suggestion http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/how-to-turn-your-owners-manuals-into-digital-files-for-your-ipad-166391

I spent at least 5 hours cleaning the bedroom yesterday. I don't think it's ever been this clean. Feels good though I managed to clear a lot of clutter that was bothering me.
However as I have ventured out in the snow my spare room is a disaster zone as my outbox had now taken over the whole room. I'll just close the door for now.
I hope everyone else made some progress this weekend.

This wi be my day tomorrow as the snow in England means I won't be going anywhere. We can deal with drizzle and rain but snow? Country grinds to a halt.

I'm normally pretty good with making the bed. I get a bit OCD about making sure the duvet hangs evenly on each side.

The big area that needs sorting is my built in closet. I cleared a few things out last night but it really needs a proper purge.

Good luck with the task this weekend everyone!

Day 12: Declutter Books & Media Apartment Therapy January Cure

When I first read this I was thinking to myself "this isn't too bad". I'm slightly ahead with the books as I had a cull of mine last night and my husband culled his earlier in the week. However I didn't think about the bookshelf full of CDs, I guess I don't really notice it anymore. Reading the comments above, it occured to me that they do take up a lot of space. At least 75% have been loaded onto iTunes and as I can plug my iPod into my car there really is no need to keep them. So tonight I'm going to load the remaining ones into iTunes and then send them all to the Outbox.

I'm pretty good with my magazines. I subscribe to Grazia and Ideal Home. When finished I give Grazia to a friend. I've given old copies of Ideal Home to my new neighbours as they have a big renovation on their hands.

Only question now is, what will I put on my bookshelves?

I've found that as I have been during the January Cure I've been watching a lot less TV anyway.

Saying that, I did fail to media fast last night. In my defence I watched George Clarke's Amazing Spaces which inspired me to think about what to do with my 1950's coal shed. I have a brick shed with the old coal shed attached, with coal still in it. I've decided to add fixing that up as a project to my 2013 list which is something that hadn't even occured to me before.

So it was inspiring which makes me feel a bit less bad about failing. Below is an example of the kind of spaces the programe covered.

My husband failed even more as he was watching premier league football. Southampton drew 2-2 with Chelsea if anyone's interested.

What lovely smug cats.

That's pretty much the expression one of my cats had this morning while watching me leave the house when it was -4 degrees outside.

My project is my kitchen pantry. I took before photos at the weekend and it looks even worse in the photos than real life. I ordered a few bits from Amazon last night which won't arrive until Friday so for now will just start sorting through and throwing away/outboximg what we don't use or need.
I'm hoping I can sell a few things on eBay to help fund all this. My husband is starting to come round to the whole cure thing now so I'm getting some help tonight which is great. I was also thinking about labels on storage jars so the suggestions here have helped a lot.

Thanks everyone, you're doing great!
