6-9pm on a Sunday night is not horrendous at my local store. I mean, it's still busy, but not completely packed and you can actually park fairly easily on the upper parking deck. So as I don't have time to drive there during the week (it's an hour away), that's the best time for me to go.

4 Tips for Getting In & Out of IKEA Faster

I looked at this post yesterday and my heart sank. I'm going away for part of the weekend, I didn't finish all of last weekend's floor cleaning, and some of my kitchen cabinets are a complete mess. BUT I went and bought my flowers last night, and they look very cheery. I'm going to tackle a couple of cabinets this morning, and a couple more when I get back on Sunday afternoon. And if I don't finish, so be it. I've decided that I'll make my best effort with the weekend chores, and like the floors, if I don't manage to get to the last 25% of it, I'll just have to celebrate that I completed 75%!

There are three things I am determined to tackle. One is fixing the holes in my bedroom wall and painting it, one is cleaning and painting the front door frame - as these are both touch up paint jobs, I'm going to treat them as one project. The other is to get the guest bedroom really nice - clear the storage from under the bed, move a dresser in there, add a bedside light and hang art work.

Day 5: Select One Project from Your List to Complete this Month Apartment Therapy January Cure

I'm so glad I did this! I still couldn't quite face the office, and the living room and my bedroom are pretty OK, so I picked the guest bedroom. It was not welcoming at all - there are a few photos haphazardly placed on random nails on the walls, but it is not pleasantly decorated. It needs a dresser, and has become a bit of a dumping ground. I did get some good ideas for moving a few things, and getting stuff out from under the bed will help. I didn't manage to sit still either, as I remembered some artwork that had never been hung, and dug it out of the closet. I've decided to frame it and get it up on the walls in there, and really make the room nice by the end of the month.

Thanks to whoever commented to put flowers behind the kitchen sink (was it on this post or the live blogging post?). I never thought of that before. I split my flowers into 3, and put them in 3 drinking glasses lined up in front of the window behind the sink. The cats shouldn't be able to eat them/knock them over there. I've got about a third of the living/dining room floor swiffered and mopped, and am about ready to get up from my break and move the sofa and get another section cleaned.

Day 3: Weekend Chores - Flowers, Floors, Green Cleaners & Outbox Apartment Therapy January Cure

My bathroom is tiny. Tiny. And there's a litter box in there, and I have 3 cats. It needs constant cleaning of litter from the floor. The previous owners put in super expensive stone tiles in a checkerboard pattern that is too busy for the space, so I've never liked it. I really need to get someone to put a cabinet in, as the shelves over the toilet just make it all seem cluttered. Grout cleaning is always a problem. I don't have a bathtub (just a shower), which I miss. I also need to buy a new toilet seat, as the old one is coming off the hinges. And the low flow toilet is a clogger!

Oh, I forgot to include the office, otherwise known as the "room of doom" in my list! Clearly an "accidentally on purpose" slip-up by my mind, because it seems too big to tackle.

Office: keep plugging away at the papers/clutter in 15 minute increments
get rid of some of the luggage stored in here

Me:

Entry: Clean and paint door surround
Move TV to improve "landing strip"
Get rid of final box of papers from previous decluttering

Living/dining room: improve lighting
Continue working on bookshelves
Deep clean

Kitchen: organize food cabinets
clean fridge
throw out microwave that stopped working and see if I can live without it

Bathroom: Organize shelves
deep clean
finally get someone to put up a cabinet?

Guest bedroom: get rid of/move everything stored under the bed
move old lamp from living room and redo bedside table
empty enough closet space for guests to store clothes
hang some artwork

My bedroom: spackle and paint the wall with the holes in the plaster
figure out new blinds/curtains that would work
keep working on the closet
deep clean

Love it! And I love the color too - I woudn't change it. I would change the throw pillows to a solid, dark color - maybe a chocolate brown, and have fewer of them. I'd ditch the throw on the back, or match the throw pillows with a solid color.

I have some of the same problems as already covered - an off-center privacy window that the bed really has to go under, but to make enough room for a dresser to open, the bed has to be pushed even further off to the side so it doesn't line up with the window. It never feels quite right.

And I want more light blocking at the windows, but having cats that want to sit on the windowsills. When I moved into my place nearly 9 years ago I swore the first thing I would do would be to get rid of the vertical blinds. But they're still there because of the cat issue. And they rattle whenever the cats go onto the windowsill, so not only are they ugly, the noise wakes me up. But I just can't figure out how to fix the situation. I suppose really thick curtains would be the best solution, but they would feel too heavy for the house, which I want to be light and airy.
