Good to see the mythological beasts making a comeback. I might have gone for griffons personally, but you've certainly made the case for the noble Unicorn.

How To: Decorate with Unicorns

In the current financial climate - particularly in countries where being able to afford a home is a difficult enough task in the fist place (such as in the U.K. where I am located) it seems to me that one of the most important things which anyone can learn - for the sake of their own satisfaction and wellbeing, is how best to adapt a rented property to their own vision of an "ideal home" as opposed to deferring that satisfaction until one day becoming a homeowner.

Good article.

Brilliant. Exactly like a scene from a fairytale. It's good to know that there are people keeping the old-world aesthetic alive and well.

Certainly a testament to how a renovation / re-decoration job can entirely change the atmosphere of a home. A striking change!

An excellent room, the very definition of calm and restful. Almost as if a section of a countryside cabin had been transplanted and adapted for a contemporary setting.

A good article, which raises an important point - namely that there is more than one way to find a good flat (or property in general.)

In my experience it's quite easy to become overly reliant on hi-tech methods (they're certainly more convenient as a rule), yet I've always had my best experiences from going into an agency and having a direct, face-to-discussion.

A great set of resources. Records can be tricky to find space for at the best of times, why not then have a compact, dedicated space for them?

Beautiful and haunting. Certainly not something which I've seen in a home as of yet. The first image brings to mind the "Northern Lights" and all of the imagery and associations which accompany them.

I couldn't see myself living comfortably in an all-white setting like these, it would seem overly clinical and restrictive at some point I imagine.

Nevertheless, you do make a good point about "fresh starts" in the New Year - and about clearing space and de-cluttering the home, as well, both of which are I believe great practices to undertake.

Just when you think you've seen it all.

In all honesty though, there's something inspirational and more than a little impressive about this story. Human ingenuity meets the desire for a personal little corner of the world. (In this case, a portable one.)

As many of the contributors here have suggested, a change of colour seems like the most straightforward option. The shape and base of the sofa are quite sturdy and don't appear overly feminine to me.

I'd suggest that the simplest and cheapest move would be to get a dark spread for the sofa, and possibly exchange the cushions for something with a less velvety finish.

Good to see that materials on home, design, and DIY related topics are branching out into new mediums. This article certainly does well as a resource in spreading awareness on the subject, with a good variety of useful links also.

Very good. The reality is that many people find space to be a constraint on what they can do in their living space, it never hurts to keep in mind strategies to optimise and save the space you have. The better you can organise your home, the more you can get out if it after all.

A very useful resource which touches on the old addage, "a place for everything, and everything in its place."

Without a dedicated space in which to organise your thoughts, working from home can be a drain on productivity. This resource gives some good ideas on how to create and style such a dedicated space.

An excellent list and an excellent concept - which fulfills both the needs to be ecologically conscious, and also to be creative and self-reliant in times of financial uncertainty.

Perhaps most of all this collection of articles serves the invaluable role of allowing one to make their home into a genuinely and practically rewarding part of their lives.
