Our neighbors are one of the main reasons I would hesitate to move. We have about three or four events a year, including a block party. We have a private facebook page and joined our local nextdoor.com. Some mornings, I have chatted with four different people by the time I get back from my 15 minute dog-walk. Even people I don't know, wave hello. It's great and it makes a huge difference in our quality of life.

Just like Maynelander, I have found alleys can be the best open source for furniture finds! I even found a wing chair in perfect condition, just thrown out with the trash. That's a bargain!

I completely understand this post!
I have been addicted to white noise since I moved into a ridiculously loud apartment over 15 years ago. Now, I cannot fall asleep without it! Absolute quite makes me nuts. Ironic, I know. I also have an eye mask just an arm away in my bedside drawer - as well as ear plugs in case the husband starts snoring!
Some of us need all the help we can get.

I have used Craigslist for things I am giving away: hundreds of succulent cuttings, plant volunteers, pet stuff. I leave things in my carport off an alley and tell people to stop by, first come first serve. I have had emails sent thanking me afterwards for the plants. I have found handwritten notes left in the carport saying "God bless you". I have had people who did NOT pick anything up thanking me for being so generous. I feel like they're the ones getting the good karma. I'm just getting a nice warm feeling inside.
