While my bunny hops around my feet looking for carrots! Not the least tempted to put her on the countertop...in any condition........but am wondering how she'd look in "ubiquitous antlers".......

Sustenance AND warmth are necessities for those who live in colder climates. A tea cozy is a nicety. In my opinion the tea cozy is frivolous, gauche and disrespectful. Fur, already harvested from a food source, used for warmth, is not frivolous. It is my opinion and I am entitled to it. You can disagree and you are entitled to that. I have every right to offer my opinion, as does everyone else here.

You can put your badge away, sheriff, there is no thresh hold of animal by product use that must be passed to have an opinion about a hideous rabbit fur tea cozy.

This argument is silly. I walk around my house and yard barefoot, but I don't eat off my floor or the ground. Yes, I have different standards for my feet and my table. Do you adorn your table with fertilizers, peel and rinds, the by-products of your lifestyle? NO ONE said the pelt should not be used, they said THIS use was unappealing on many levels. There is no hypocrisy, one can find this use disgusting, while finding other uses acceptable. Hopefully you compost and do not waste your by-products.

There are many uses that are 'worthy', but in my opinion, this is not one of them, If there are tacky items made from other animals, bison included, I will be happy to share my opinion of them as they crop up.

I did not say they should discard the pelts and mentioned that useful protective wear, lining hats and gloves, for instance, seems more appropriate. No, a bison cozy would be equally odd. The pelts of the bison are used in a number of ways, including useful, practical, attractive items. I'm all for respectfully using the pelts. If some find this respectful, useful and attractive, that's fine. This just strikes me as gauche and frivolous.

Speaking as a carnivore, this seems frivolous and tacky. There is a huge leap from life sustaining food and protective clothing to tacky, disgusting tea cozy that feels disrespectful to the animal.

It is possible to respect the animals that provide sustenance. Personally I prefer to eat field killed bison that never know the fear of a cattle truck, the jolt of a cattle prod, the cramping of a feed lot or the smell of a slaughter house. I respect those who choose a vegetarian life style, but I also respect humanely killed animals that provide nourishment, and would not like to see them used in weird, frivolous ways. One minute munching grass, the next, bison burger. There are far worse fates that await wild bison, sickness, starvation, old age, predators.

I'm all for not wasting the fur of an animal that has been harvested for food, but this is just wrong on every imaginable level...gross, tacky, sad, impractical, tasteless, weird, inappropriate....either a very bizarre joke or a complete lapse in judgement.

The uber thick, 100% Wool Felt used in some of these can't be compared to cheap, synthetic felt in cost or beauty. Target and Marshall's...made in China from cheap material. Some of above, handmade in the US from gorgeous, thick, vibrant 100% wool felt.

Really just depends on what you treasure in your home. I buy cheap when I want cheap, and quality when I care to have quality, but I never compare the two.....

Hi, Jason-

I actually have the original feltplanet mouse pad! (feltplanet is my shop).

I was away from my own office using someone else's desk and a really icky old plastic mouse pad. It was awful. Luckily I had a large felt trivet with me so I tried it out as a mousepad and it worked great! I added 100% wool felt mouse pads to my etsy shop the next day and have been using the original felt 'trivet' as my mouse pad ever since. It still looks the same today as it did the first day I tried it out, and I LIVE on my computer (for better or worse).

The IKEA mouse pad is listed on one site as being synthetic rubber and polyester. Not sure how well they would biodegrade. Just the thought of all the resources that go into mass producing, distributing and throwing out these products..... I understand the need for some temporary products, but it seems we've become a throw away society when some items can be produced once, perhaps be a little more costly, but last much longer, if not a lifetime, and in the end cost less!

Cheers!

I cringe at the thought of buying a stack of cheap mouse pads and sending them off to the landfill when they're worn out! I have been using a 100% Wool Felt Mouse Pad for over 2 years and it looks brand new. Not only is wool felt extraordinarily durable, it is a renewable, sustainable, natural resource. Looking at my mouse pad today, I can't imagine ever needing a new one, but if I did, tossing a 100% natural, biodegradable product (wool) wouldn't make a twinge in my eco-conscience!

@susanbnyc

I know this is old, but....

Aetna Felt has 2mm, 3mm and 5mm 100% wool felt, as well as some in 1mm range, in many colors. You can call for free samples to see if any of them would work for you.

Hope that helps!!

@keisha

If you click on the link above for Aetna Felt, they are offering a special price for the size used here, 36" x 72", of $241.21. While not cheap, Industrial Wool Felt is extremely durable and for those who love the 'warmth', and feel of thick wool felt, it is a decent price. Hope that helps!
