I looked at the one from Target, but eventually got the Loden lamp from Cost Plus World Market. It's funny to see them both on your list. I guess there must not be too many options.

The Loden is good. I like it. Just FYI, I got the lampshade that looked closest to white (natural cotton linen) and it looks much darker and more beige with the lamp on. I'm disappointed and I would have exchanged it, but they don't have anything lighter.

I think you're right about that! My parents are about your age and they recently made the same decision. They love it! Every time I talk to my dad he tells me how great it is.

It's strange because I always had this idea that you work on paying off your mortgage so that you'll own your home once you're retired, and now it seems like the first thing people do when they retire is sell the house and get an apartment. :)

Very interesting quote! I'll have to look up that book. Thanks for sharing.

It's true about peanut butter. I'm on weight watchers, and I have to measure it out carefully because it packs a lot of energy into a single tablespoon.

Reduced fat peanut butter, natural peanut butter, and normal peanut butter (creamy or smooth) all come out to exactly the same points value. I have no doubt that natural is the healthiest option. There's more to health than weight loss, after all.

One thing I have learned to be aware of: "reduced fat" often means "now with added high-fructose corn syrup!"

This is particularly true for dairy products.

I realize that there is debate about how evil HFCS is. It has the same glycemic index as honey, and honey is considered one of the healthiest sweeteners. However, I personally would rather that every item of food that I consume NOT be stuffed with it.

Dansko's in the kitchen! I already struggle with the kitchen counter feeling too low. I think if I wore clogs I would turn into a hunch back.

Earlier today I was looking at $30 Le Creuset crocks on Amazon and wondering if the brand name would seem overly pretentious in my little kitchen...

Bamboo is safe for cats, but "Lucky Bamboo" is toxic!

True bamboo is a grass originally from Asia. It grows very tall very quickly and needs dirt to survive.

"Lucky Bamboo" is a lily from rainforest in the Congo. It grows slowly, is packaged in water with rocks, and is often twisted into interesting shapes.

Be absolutely sure that your "bamboo" is actually bamboo, because lucky bamboo is highly toxic.

One of my cats got very sick after nomming on some "bamboo" I had in the bathroom, so I am speaking from experience here. (The cat is fine now, but it was scary.)

We've actually been shopping for a new bed and planning to make the bedroom the next on our list for decorating. I might participate, as long as that doesn't involve waiting until March to get started.

I love the painting above the bed in the first photo. I don't suppose anybody knows where it came from?

I like the art grouping above the couch! Especially the large painting on the left, the one in shades of orange that sort of looks like impressionist birch trees.

I have seen art like that before and thought I didn't like it, but I think it looks great the way you've used it.

Trunks are easy to find at thrift stores. I'm not one of those people who automatically says that about everything.

I have one that cost me about $20.

Have you tried Dramamine? I get motion sickness from FPS too, and anti-nausea medication works like a charm. I wouldn't drug myself for months just to get through Halo, but it'll work in a pinch at a party. It's also good for 3D movies.

You could also try candied ginger if you want to go the natural route. It doesn't work for me, but it works for some people. Mythbusters tested it during the episode on motion sickness.
