this just reminds me of the portlandia skit, "put a bird on it!" :D

i love unframed art, especially canvas. it just looks so modern and clean to me.

it's not pretty, but i often just stick a plate on top of mixing bowls, etc to put in the fridge. works well and doesn't involving buying anything new. plus it makes things easy to stack.

my partner has this talent for making a stack of random books look beautiful together on a shelf. i do not have this talent. therefore, until he gets around to organizing my whopping collection of well-loved books, they are sorted by colour. except for the row of national geographics, i actually think it looks quite subtle and works very well for me as an organizational system.

@see: books ARE objects. stories on the other hand, are what should be treated with respect.

i actually really like it! i think it totally works in this setup. i don't think it's something to try and "recreate" or anything, but it looks cool here.

i don't own very many clothes, so i tend to pack clothes the day before and set out what i'll wear on the travelling day, then pack last-minute toiletries (toothbrush, deodorant, etc) just before i leave.

I think the TV wall is screaming to be a turquoise accent wall with a low, dark wood credenza to hold the TV & accessories. Turquoise & coral look wonderful together, so you could keep your current pillows and add a few blue-y throws or pillows and accessories too.

I also agree with much wider, lower hung linen curtains, swapping the couch & chairs with the white table painted darker and set between the chairs in front of the window, and the creation of a landing strip to separate the living area from the entryway (here's an example of how to do that in a setup like yours with very little space: http://www.noaccountingfortaste.com/?p=1238 ).

White accents could be brought in with a big piece of abstract art over the TV (you could even do it yourself if you're creative and can get some canvas), vases, your throw, etc. You could also have a lot of fun with lamps in jewel tones or just stick with something functional - but you definitely need lamps!

I don't think a rug is totally necessary since you have such pretty wood floors, but I do think a nice wide coffee table would help with the room's flow.

i guess it's pretty until you accidentally leave the iron sitting on it for a couple seconds and have a giant burn mark right in the middle.
