Great job! I love the incremental approach, the care you've taken with choosing the details, and your reuse of the cabinets. Because of the green it has so much more personality than most, and even has a classic feel because of the age & style of your cabinets. Not exactly cooking accessories, but I like to bring home little bowls to add to my collection of little bowls from unusual places. They add decorative value to my glass-front cabinets and of course I use them all the time. Travel Treasures: 6 Essential Cooking Souvenirs Bon Appétit |

I find that reading a book (not my iphone) induces shut-eye and helps me fall asleep by taking my mind off of whatever else might churn in my head to keep me awake. I sleep with earplugs because, although it's generally quiet on my street, I wake up easily to loud noises. I'm also training the cats that rough-housing with each other on the bed is not okay. :-/ 6 Simple Changes to Make at Home to Help You Sleep |

As I have a small kitchen I needed the smallest appliances around -- and chose a single-drawer dishwasher. It allows me a drawer below for all my pots (which otherwise I wouldn't have). Since most of the time I don't have enough dishes at once for a full load I use it as an easy-access under-cabinet drying rack, keeping my counters available for cooking. The best white noise for me is my own breathing - I use earplugs. I'm distracted by everything else -- even the purring of my cats (who -- thank goodness -- do not knead my face or lick my hair). White Noise & Your Brain: The Science of Sound Machines |

Doesn't anyone have dust? I mean, I have to dust off the shoulders on rarely worn items that sit in my closet. I can't imagine if they were exposed. Oh, and the cats and all their fur. No Closet, No Problem: 10 Fixes for Apartments with a Lack of Closets Renters Solutions |

Definitely paint, especially if the existing color is terrible. In my last rental I took the place in a hurry and didn't realize how awful the paint in the kitchen was until I moved in. The room was dark and the colors made everything look muddy and dull, and I couldn't put anything on the walls without wanting to throw up. (Well, not literally.) I asked the owner to pay for the paint and I assured him I'd do a quality job, protect the floors, etc. What had been there was very customized for his own tastes and he agreed it was okay to repaint since he wasn't planning to move back in. Fortunately he saw my painting as an improvement and there was no mention of painting over it when I left about a year later. 5 Things I Never Did to a Rental But Probably Should Have Renters Solutions |

I agree with the planners above (I'm also a planner and very active neighbor) about contacting the authorities and finding out the process. Some neighborhood associations and planning commissions might not accept a petition because they don't know how the project was characterized. I've experienced developers (and neighborhood activists) getting neighbors to sign petitions based on incomplete information. It can make it very difficult for neighbors with complete information to negotiate with the developers. How To Successfully Circulate a Neighborhood Petition |

Although it looks nice and organized, I'm not crazy about putting rotting food in the same space as the food still to be eaten. I also wonder if the dog food doesn't get dried out when it's not in an air-tight container? For compostables, especially in the summertime, a covered container would be optimal. I put mine in the fridge so it can accumulate without decaying considerably before I can take it outside. Organizing Waste in a Small Kitchen |

@A.Sobolevskiy: Tutorial please! That would be great for most outlets. I see now that you can buy outlets with switches on the front, but this would great for USBs. Thanks. RCA's "Best of Innovation" USB Wall Plate Charger CES 2012 |

When I first bought my house I set up a spreadsheet (yes, admittedly a bit anal) to track my expenses and plan for a major renovation. The tracking was incredibly helpful in understanding my expenses and how much was left over. (I wish I'd started that beforehand so I would have saved a lot more and spent a lot less on eating out.) It really helps to know how cutting out the "small" stuff adds up when you have some serious goals in mind -- like saving "x" amount in the next one, two, or three years for a down payment or pay down your mortgage faster, renovate, etc. You Can Do It: 100% Realistic Budgeting Tips & Resources |

I would say floors and walls. After having the very damaged floors refinished (to incredible beauty) on a fixer-upper, I could see the potential of the place more than any other repairs we had done before that. The repaired and repainted walls were then all that was needed for this place to look incredible -- and there were still quite a few things to do. The 3 Most Worthwhile Real Life Home Upgrades |

I love having mine below the counter (http://community.apartmenttherapy.com/contests/smallcoolkitchens/2011/entries/3011) because I can see into it well.
