I like the yellow streetcar (trolley or whatever) that is shown at the beginning of this section. Here in NYC the busses are plastered with ads, and they clash with the nice buildings that line the streets.

I have bought a number of nice tole trays (painted metal trays) from Ebay. They have a large assortment.

They make nice and unpretentious "wall art".

My solution is to put the TV into a cabinet that has a decorative face. Take a look:

Hot or Not? Flat Panel TV Covers?

It seems somehow inappropriate to place furniture on a truly fine oriental rug: one wants to see the design, not to have it hidden.

@creative license and others of your ilk:
If you look over the many pictures on AT, you'll notice that most of the furniture is DIY, or refinished, or unique in some way; and much of it is made from natural materials. TV's, on the other hand, hail from another universe of craft and material. They're foreign, in more ways than one. If discontinuity is ok with you, then there's no problem. But for those who want some sort of unity in the world they create around themselves, the problem of the TV is real.

I built this TV cabinet because my 32" Sony would be out of place in my small NYC space. Have a look:

Informal lettering can be beautiful if follows certain well established rules. When the rules are flouted (as seen in these place mats), the result is, well, underwhelming.

Perhaps the availability of high tech tools has made us lazy and insensitive to the old crafts that brought warmth and beauty into the world of our ancestors.

Pardon my snarkieness, but the artist who drew the turkey card (No1.) should learn lettering. There's a correct way to draw letters: the thick strokes go a certain way, and likewise the thin strokes. Letters don't look right when the rules are flouted, as they are here.

SusanneMuc: I respectfully disagree. A large TV (awkward though it may be) has the potential of creating a shared life among people who might otherwise be cut off from each other. Some of the best moments of my childhood were spent with my family in front of the tube.

Do the occupants every watch TV? I don't see one here, and I'd love to know how they'd place one.

Another thought about the TV in the living room: it's a shiny black object that sits above the credenza, which is also a shiny black object. The two match. Maybe that's just an accident, but the similarity helps to integrate the TV into the overall decor.

It appears from the photo that the wall-mounted TV in the living room is placed a bit too high and too far from the sofa for optimal viewing. I'd suppose that residents of LA would be extra sensitive to that issue.

Chain link is also better painted black.

@shoestringgirl Yes, the TV is naked!

In the photo, the shadows are so dense that it's hardly visible; but in the flesh, it would be intrusive. TV's should be properly encased in woodwork, in my opinion.

Maps need to be seen close up; if they're on the ceiling, they're too far away.

Is there a TV in the cabinet in front of the sofa?

Men and women have different tastes, to be sure. Women tend to like frilly stuff; men tend to like heavy and stark stuff (and less of it). But so what? The headline is not offensive, it's just a cliche.

The bottom half of the chair is very Louis XVI; the top flares out in defiance of this style. So the thing fights with itself. Not worth the effort of renovation.
