If you are throwing a big party I recommend sharing the invites with friends. If say you have a party on your own and invite 10 ppl, maybe 2-4 will show up. If you share a party with 4 friends and they each invite 10 ppl you'll have 4+8-16. Especially if you're doing something like a Holiday party where people typically have lots of events to attend.
I don't understand why ppl show up 1-2hrs late to events, its just plain rude. I had a dinner party where all the guests arrived about an 1:30hrs late and it was really frustrating. It upset my timing for the whole night; I ended up packing up all the appetizers to get them in the fridge just to frantically get them out again when everyone arrived. It really made my night a little less enjoyable and was irritating considering the amount of work that went into making it happen.

May be an idea to take advantage of having a handy husband and framing out around the fridge (space permitting) and just buy the Ikea door fronts for the cabinet enclosure above the fridge. Might save some money on cabinets that usually go unused anyways.
Looking fwd to seeing how it all turns out! Good luck, have fun!

Great and Wonderful! Did you integrate lighting into the *new* entry roof? Agreed that pictures from the ground floor would be a great addition to this post.
