EXACTLY what wellberry said - I finally realized that I was keeping multiple bookshelves of books (many of them unread) and moving them around with me every time I moved (which was something like 8 times in 5 years during my 20s) because I thought having multiple bookshelves of books said something about me. People who came over would be impressed by alllll the books, but it got embarassing when they started asking "have you READ all of these?" and the answer was no, by a long shot. I wanted people to see me as intelligent and well-read, and it was silly. Since I did a serious purge of my collection and kept only those books that I really love, I feel much more positive about my library, because now it contains books that really do say something about who I am/ what I care about.

AKK730 - this happened when I was a kid - my parents picked out what they thought was a light gray color to repaint our house. On the day it was painted, my mom called my dad at work in tears -turns out that the light gray they had chosen was actually more like a light green once it was on the house. It was too expensive to repaint, so we never did, and my parents even later sold the house painted that color - but that light green paint never did grow on any of us. We still laugh about that disaster.

No major problems. I wish the walls were white instead of the warm-toned color that they are - I just prefer the cooler look of white walls over beige/warm tones. It's a rental, though, so doubtful I will be repainting. Also, the living room is really the only place in the apartment to keep a large litterbox for my three cats. No room in the bathroom, we don't allow them in our bedroom, no room in the study, and no room in the kitchen (plus that would just be gross.) So the litterbox lives in a corner of the living room and there is constantly litter all over in that part of the room, which I hate. I would love to have another box that the litterbox sat inside of, with high walls to contain the litter, but I haven't gotten around to hacking something yet.

Oh, and one more thing...we have a cupboard underneath the bathroom sink, and believe it or not, I would RATHER have a pedestal sink so the litterbox could fit in the bathroom.

After reading all of these comments, I feel fortunate that my biggest complaint about our bathroom is the color of the tiles. The apartment was built in 1952 and the bathroom is all in peach and burgundy tiles, which (for reasons WELL beyond me) seems to have been a popular bathroom color combination of the time. Peach floors, peach counters, peach tiled walls, with burgundy trim. Are you aware that there are NO colors out there that look good with peach and burgundy? I ended up just buying a shower curtain and rug in white, because adding any other color just seemed to make the bathroom look even more busy and bizarre.

Ooops - they're not blue, they're gray! I still love 'em.

Those blue walls are fantastic. I love that particular shade.

Great post. I am going to work on keeping the idea of pausing to consider consumption in mind.

My SO and I switched up our morning schedule about three months ago and we now get up at the same time, whereas he used to get up last. This means I can make the bed now, and it does make such a difference. Brings a sense of calm and order to the bedroom.

Just something to consider, but...I am currently without a dresser and am using fabric cube bins on a shelving unit to hold my socks, underwear, etc. It's hard to find what you're looking for when everything is jumbled together in a bin. Almost every day I end up dumping the entire sock bin out on my bed to find the pair I want. So I actually DON'T recommend the cubed bin option, and am also looking forward to getting a dresser for proper clothing storage.
