The general public will never catch on to the importance of fidelity in audio, for a few reasons. One being that, much like picture quality, your average person has no clue what fidelity means when it comes to audio or video. People want what they like, not what's accurate. 99.99999999 % of people have non calibrated displays, and if you try and change settings on a friend's set so that it approaches accuracy, they aren't happy. Too dim, too soft, not enough "pop", it doesn't look like those nature shows they see in HD on the showroom floor. Audio is the same. Accuracy means no tone controls, not being able to hear the bass, the treble not sizzling your ears and destroying your tweeter. People like what they know; loud and awesome sounding. Not flat responses and time and phase coherence. The Death of Hi-Fidelity: Why Are We All Compromising When It Comes to Sound? |
