I like Bern helmets myself. I couldn't ride around this city without a helmet - it's trying, but we're very much still a bike unfriendly place.

Yeah, the article mentions that the $1 price tag came with lots of strings attached - the city wanted the couple to prove and ensure that they would indeed restore it. Great results - I think the city of Detroit could learn from this idea.

HBO has had some of the best television of the past decade, you're missing out on masterpiece story-telling. Yes, the violence and sex can be gratuitous at times, but the stories are excellent. The Sopranos, The Wire, Game of Thrones.

Crossbody bag? Your shoulder's gonna hurt in an hour. Even in the city, a backpack is recommended as the weight will be spread across your shoulders. I've given up trying to lug my DSLR + extra lens, battery, etc in my shoulder bag. I use the in-purse camera bags by Ona to store my camera and Herschel's Post backpack.

It does appear that RH is positioning itself to be the anti-Pottery Barn.

Do away with the bright light streaming in your Hamptons compound, the forced cheery ornaments assaulting your walls. Embrace the dim light of a turn-of-the-century Parisian alley bar, coupled with the bleak ambience of a cold derelict boardinghouse. When you do, make sure to consider our finely-crafted, obscenely expensive pieces that are perfect for your guarded enclave or as a backdrop for your next vaguely eerie daguerrotype.

Why is there always an obligatory "That's so expensive I'd never pay so much for so-and-so!" Yes, some things are pricy and out of some budgets. Many people buy these pricy things. There is a market for them.

I like how "do-able" this makeover is, definitely weekend-friendly. They didn't strip everyone down, but the changes they made still made a difference. Great job!

I made the mistake of buying a stylish but holy-god-my-butt-and-spine-want-to-scream chair. Thankfully it was a floor model so it was 75% off and I've used Muji's polyurethane foam seat cushions (highly recommended, super comfy) but it was still an expensive lesson.

Personally I think it's silly that people attempt to "hide" a TV - if you bought it, might as well own it and work with it. I saw one comment in a past post saying they wished companies made TVs with white frames... yeah that won't be distracting at all when you're watching at night/in the dark. At least we have super-slim models these days that can be wall mounted, occupy much less space, and don't have to deal with the hulking monsters of decades past.

It's gotten attention because it gave people a new way to explore the place they're visiting. Hotels have become expensive, and if you were on a budget the only way you could manage a trip before was to stick it out in a seedy motel, hostel, or stay with friends.

I think it's pointless to fight it - the numbers have spoken and Airbnb looks like it's here to stay. Like the story in question exemplifies, it's not perfect, but neither is the hotel industry - it's simply offering a new option in traveling. Landlords and the like are just delaying the inevitable by dragging their feet on adapting to this, and there can be avenues explored for tenant and landlord to meet halfway on this.
