Eagluvr, unless you are truly going vintage shopping - for shoes I would probably just go with some simple Keds. Think CIndy Brady.

I wish I lived (or could live next) in this apt. It has been made very cozy for these two. Looks to me that a lot of the extra decor around in these specific pictures is happy stuff, white lights, crafts and artwork - to keep the surroundings fun. And, some of the rest -- that's why the move is imminent - the need for more room to create new days. I think this is where the more internal stuff that made me love this site, book, people -- comes in. Taking what you got and making it work (mainly for you, not necessarily the world), thrive and grow. Can't wait to see what you do with the new place, Max and Lulu!

I don't belong anymore - but also Costco. The huge flat bag of pre-cooked bacon. I don't know, like, 50 slices maybe. Since I can't get it myself anymore - I have even contemplated standing in the shadow of the building, like an under-aged kid outside of the convenience store, "Pssst, Mister - here's a twenty, will you buy me some bacon?"

I too watch this movie every time it's on - it took me about five reruns before I noticed there is also a scene where Amanda is carrying a plate of fettucine to the couch. Yay for comfort food.

A FLW house in Issaquah, WA is for sale. A couple of years ago I was able to stop by Taliesin West and sat in the living room chairs - the plywoody ones - and started getting a little misty. Thankfully I held it together, my sister would have thought I was nuts.

It seems to be an applicable AT topic to remind people to check school district policies prior to selecting a new neighborhood, city or home for their family to move to? I'm glad there is a variety of topics to read about and talk about on this site. I think it's humorous that the term "redshirting" applies to anything but college athletics - never heard of it used in any other way before.

@JAXLBC - I'm the same way. The whole thing right out of the pan. But I refuse to deny myself making it now and then. So, I have learned to split the ingredients in half before making the mac and cheese. Half the noodles go into a mason jar and half the orange powder into the smallest red Rubbermaids - the kind that dressing goes into for lunches.

Hotel Abruzzi, Roma. It is literally at the feet of the Pantheon. I haven't been there since 2006. But the rooms were modern and nice (wood floors, marble baths, not overly upholstered - I agree about clean, sleek = reassuring). And the Plaza was pretty quiet at night compared to being on a street. And there is no beating the view.

RE: mail/paperwork: I found something that works for me. Under my wall calendar - usually just one of those 12 x 12 "theme" ones that are on sale always for 1/2 off -- I hang a manila envelope (9 x 12) by it's reinforced "hole" Every month, I just throw the mail in that thing - junk mail even if I have been too lazy to pull it apart piece by piece.

I also dump in receipts from my wallet whenever I clear those out. That way everything is in one place when I carve out a time to tackle that stuff.

I have found putting in the junk mail has been helpful as we get a couple bundles of shoppers each week, and sometimes something important slips in there. That way, I know I have gone through every single store ad and direct mail piece and nothing can have been lost.

At monthend, slap the month and year on that thing, and file it away. (Great fun chance to use the label maker!)

Wait, which photo is yours? The top one looks like it is a window big enough for a window seat, the bottom one has the blinds..... The top one looks like it needs color which has plenty of room for a stand alone screen. And, the bottom photo looks fine, at night - blinds or open blinds; in the day, roll 'em up and it's the city.

I am usually on the side of drill first, oops later. Of course, I consider damage deposits all to be nonrefundable, I just hope to not exceed all prior paids. Are the blinds able to be taken down, to give you room to do the tension rod/curtain thing? If you store the blinds they will be like brand new, completely undamaged and dust-free to put back up upon move out....

I have a flower/plant eating cat who has somehow managed to get to them no matter how high or isolated a place so risking his well being isn't worth the few hours those flowers would last. I like those clear glass vases that hang on the wall, but I rent and try not to hang stuff. So, I just printed an 8x10 picture of a wild purple iris and placed it where I'll see it from several places in my apt. Tons of those "flags" used to grow around my childhood home. It brought back a great memory of being able to enjoy cute, real flowers, free from the country roadside -- "B.C." (before-cat)

Hard to make a recommendation without knowing how long until a new contract phone upgrade is available, or if $ for the latest and greatest is wanted to be spent as soon as an upgrade is available. It's not like the phones are completely cheap even at the contract re-sign..... As far as my repair, it went great!! Phone is just like new. Totally happy with the service. For us, as we don't have a new phone upgrade option until 10/12, the $85 repair was awesome. So, we'll eat at home a few more times when I'd rather go the easier takeout route. If you are in Seattle or Chicago, I heartily endorse Jet City Device Repair (and whatever the Chicago store is called).

I'm looking into getting a glass screen replaced today. I have a local shop here in Seattle, and they have another location in Chicago. Look up Jet City Device Repair, Seattle. (I can't remember the Chicago store's name). $85 to fix my HTC screen. They accept mailed phones, repair takes a day, and they mail it back. I'll let you know how it goes.

Food bill? I spent one week on vacation in NYC and could have eaten out daily on $15 a day mixing non-cooked fresh and frozen or fast food (Chinese, Grocery, street food, or Chipotle)..... there are so many resources. I did have access to a fridge and micro - but no utensils like Pyrex or bulk storage. Here at home, I spent $6.30 today on an energy drink (Thermos-sized) and Altoids. $6.25 on a breakfast burrito and Apple Juice Nantucket Nectar. Vending machine lunch $1.50 Mt. Dew, $1.00 Planters Peanuts, $75 Certs. Dinner $6.99 Redhook ESB - with a $2.50 Stouffer Mac & Cheese that may wait until tomorrow. Still pretty budget friendly but not as inexpensive as NYC. I hate to admit but we also only drank bottled water in NY, But bought in bulk at the beginning so no idea what per bottle, 10c? 20c. We're traveler's - we didn't want to risk it. Got so sick in Las Vegas before any beer could be consumed. It was narrowed down to free breakfast buffet or communal computer at AZ hotel.
