I'm recently retired from a rather conservative corporation. We were limited in what we could have in our spaces.

I've been in my one-bedroom rental apartment almost 20 years ... after divorcing and selling our four-bedroom house. Apartment living is much easier than owning a home. When I moved here, I decorated with the same care I used when I owned a house. In fact, it was much more fun to decorate when I didn't have to take another person's opinions into account!

But - it is more difficult to organize things in such a small space. I can hide stuff in a spare bedroom and close the door! I'm enjoying the tips on this website ... and I'm putting them to use!

No lighting woes. I prefer subdued lighting and don't care for a lot of natural lighting. I have black sheers on my windows, and lots of lamps (9 in just the living room and bedroom) so I can light the individual areas as needed.

This already was my weekend plan ... I started yesterday since in my small apartment, the bedroom is also my "storage" space (behind decorative screens).

I'm good to go on this!

A friend mentioned she was looking for a particular type of cross-body bag and asked if I had seen any when out shopping ... I had three in the closet that I didn't use ... they are now in her closet!

My project is organizing an over-sized yarn stash and knitting stuff (books, needles, etc.). The shelf units arrived and are assembled and in place in the beddroom as of yesterday. I next need to go through all the bins and organize the contents. I'm still debating with myself on how to separate it. In the meantime - at least the bins are now neatly on the shelves and the shelves are hidden behind the screens. While I think about the yarn, today I'll work on putting my books in a workable order. They are in bookcases in four different places .... first step is getting them all into one area.

I bought a bunch of storage crates at Staples. They are called "file storage crates" and the accommodate hanging folders. If you turn them on the side and stack them they make handy shelves. Relatively inexpensive and come in a variety of colors.

I just went ahead and ordered some shelving that I had been hesitating about buying.

It's 4:30 pm and I finished my Tueday project. And ... while I was walking back to the kitchen with the duster, I dusted all the pictures, mirrors and furniture in the living room and dining area! I'm rather proud of myself! Bedroom looks neat and the rest of the apartment is almost sparkly with the shiny glass on the mirrors and pictures!

I grew up in Queens, NY. Lived in San Francisco about 20 years, and came back to New York and moved into an apartment in Manhattan.

I just cannot do suburbia. Grass makes me sneeze!
