@eliz - a little google search and i've found the exact hamper! it is the Athena Apartment Upright Hamper which can be purchased at Bed Bath and Beyond. happy shopping eliz!

for those in the boston area that might be interested in purchasing it too, there's one up for sale on craigslist in framingham.

"If it's not out, then it's not needed." amen. bravo on paring down your possessions! it's often said that "less is more", and the i agree with janet uws that the "true luxury" is the elegance of the empty space (especially in NYC). however, keep in mind that minimalism is not synonymus with lifelessness. this space looks almost uninhabited. i think the home tour of Rich and Emily in Somerville is an excellent execution of minimalism, while maintaining warmth, vitality, and joyfulness. a little art, a little color, and a throw blanket would help immensely.

there are only two photos that give the sense of the layout and look of the room. the other three photo, while beautiful, merely show close ups of small details (the lighting, the art, the pillows, etc.). in the description you've noted you're 'blessed' with walk-in closets and have mounted big hooks on the wall to keep things off the floor - so, show it off! where are the photos of those features?

i like the simplicity of the color scheme. i like the shaker-style furniture. the brick wall is definitely a show-stopper. i also like the abundance of natural light. i don't enjoy the placement of the globe collection. it too precarious for me. i'd be afraid that i'd knock them down while tossing and turning in my sleep. also, the wrap around hangers aren't handsome or sculptural. i think they detract from the peaceful vibe of this space. their placement on the wall also accentuates the low ceiling.

Levi - great place! I have a construction question for you regarding the bed frames you and your sister designed....

the platform of the bed frame appears to have two layers of wood- the top layer of wooden boards run the width of the bed- but what about the bottom layer? is the bottom layer also composed of wooden board running the length of the bed? or is it a piece of plywood?

the legs of the bed frame look like runners on a sleigh. the board used for the "runners" appears to be 2" or 3" wide. how far apart did you position the legs/runners? how far from the edge of the platform?

i've been working on my own design for a new bed frame for some time now. your execution is brilliant. I'd appreciate a comment on the design and construction. thank you!
