The kitchen of our 1942 house had linoleum tile put in a around 2000. White with black accent areas. I can't really call it white because it won't stay clean! We had it professionally cleaned before moving in in 2004, but aren't going to empty the kitchen to reseal it.

That floor is raised about 1/2" from the dining room. We're thinking about removing it and seeing if the oak floors continue into the kitchen. If they do and are in good shape, we'll stick with that. If not, some nice hex tile would be perfect in there. Keeping the cabinets no matter what, they were built with the house and have few sharp corners--all rounded, like streamline moderne, but not exaggeratedly so.

I have an iPhone with unlimited, but a nephew on our plan was running to his limit, even though he wasn't going online all that much.

I was told by AT&T that Pandora, YouTube, and Facebook stay online, even when you're off, even when you delete it from history (press home button twice, delete your history). What you have to do is LOG OFF each and every time you're going to leave the site. Inconvenient, but if you're limited, it's cheaper. There's two other popular websites that do this, too. Can't remember them, though.

Well, not for breakfast, but my husband's family often puts slices of avocado into their bowls of chicken soup, along with a bit of lemon/lime juice.

I know, sounds odd, but the smoothness of the avocado and the flavors of the soup go really well together.

We have a 20 foot long hallway. A door at each end (foyer and bedroom), two doorways (bedrooms) and a 5 foot hall to the bathroom on one side, three doorways one the other side (closets and basement) with a fold-out phone seat and shelves in the wall, and a 3 foot hall at the non-foyer end with two more doors (kitchen and dining room). It is the spine of the house. There are only TWO recessed lights, but with old plaster walls, doing anything promises a mess and possible loss of plaster.

My husband wanted the hall painted bright YELLOW(!), which it was. And which I said, "TOO yellow!" We toned it down a bit; though still a bright yellow, it's not screaming. The yellow reflects nicely and brightens things up.

As you can read, there's only so much wall space left, what with doors opening and such. And it's a basic width hall, wide enough to carry a laundry basket without jamming knuckles. We're thinking about putting in a picture rail molding at the top, or a nice rod for hanging pictures on the one stretch of wall. That way, no floor space is used.

Hubby saves boxes "just in case." I save some, but not as bad. I also had too much packing material--and just found out our local post office will accept peanuts! White ones aren't recyclable, but letting someone else use the is a form of recycling.

When to Toss Your Tech Boxes

My husband always said, "just put it in a box and I'll go through it." Yeah. Ten boxes later, I've given up on him with that. I grab a box, toss or shred or file the obvious, and give him a much-reduced box to decide on. Five minutes for him. Repeat with the next couple boxes over a week or two (its slow with people who don't like to get rid of things), and what was SIX boxes is ONE box. Not perfect, and there's still LOTS more boxes, but its a step.

I'm not so good either. I'm 50yo, no kids. Do I really NEED to keep stuff from high school, like yearbooks? People say, "they don't take up much room." We'll, when you keep saying that about a lot of things that, individually don't take up much room--collectively, they take over a room!

I just got rid of a bunch of peanuts--not recyclable.

We've been in our house 10 years, not planning on moving anytime soon. But Hubby won't get rid of or go through things. But he says enough is enough and we'll start with our "office" next year. I'm saving the basement for 2014, but I think I'll try to at least start. Btw, my mom IS a hoarder. Her house is going to be murder to go through.
