My city (Sacramento) allows for up to 3 egg laying hens, no roosters, in the backyard. There are fees associated with us being able to keep them as well as restrictions on how close they can be to a neighboring house. For us its 10ft. Ive been doing some serious research and am about 90% sure at this point that we will be backyard chicked owners in the near future. Our yard space is fairly small as we live in a typical development community so only having 2 or 3 is perfect for us. Im still deciding whether to go with a coop or tractor.
