Any table with clean lines would work. If you want vintage, just keep an eye out for Danish Modern tables, otherwise Room and Board has good quality furniture (the Ventura table would look nice with your chairs). Table To Match Set of Vintage Chairs? Good Questions |

I've hit many indendent hardware stores and several True-Values in downtown Manhattan, and gotten good service at all of them. Special mention to Chambers St. Hardware - not only are they happy to help solve hardware-related problems, they don't get aggravated at kids in the store. In fact, they engaged my 8 year old in a water gun fight in the store last year while I was shopping. Now THAT'S customer service! Apartment Therapy New York | Helpful Hardware Stores |

I completely disagree with NPR. "Modern" and "Contemporary" have specific connotations in architecture and design. Ulrika has provided a good, brief explanation of Modern, and Contemporary essentially references the later 20th century period. But the word "modern" also is correctly used to connote anything pertaining to the present and recent time - as does "contemporary". We should all feel free to use those words to describe Project Runway dresses, or anything else for that matter! Apartment Therapy Chicago | The Meaning of Modern NPR's All Things Considered |

These are stunning and totally worth the price. I know just enough about quilting to value the time and effort spent on these. Completely out of my price range, but oh-so droolworthy! Apartment Therapy Boston | Intergalactic Quilts by Jimmy McBride |

I don't see any major design fails. I like seeing a big retail chain working with artists and taking the risk to sell less commercial pieces. The only item that's really impractical is the ladder/vase, but it's interesting. Apartment Therapy New York | Hot or Not? Anthropologie International Artist Series |

I purchased a 7-piece set of these vintage bathroom accessories on Ebay. I'd always assumed they were cemented in or something, they look and feel so permanent, but they're actually easy to remove. There is a back plate that you screw into the wall (two screws, one over the other, for stability). It's narrower at the top than at the bottom, and the right/left sides are bent forward (away from the wall) slightly. Apartment Therapy New York | What to do with Built-in Soap Dishes? |

edava72, I did a lot of research a couple of years ago when looking to have an old steel medical cabinet powder-coated. I remember one body shop telling me they'd stopped painting furniture, and I remember I eventually found a place outside the city that would pick up and deliver, but their quote was around $900, and as I was cold-calling I had no sense of the quality of their work. Maybe if you're familiar with Brooklyn or Queens you can have a look around for local body shops and walk in and ask. Apartment Therapy San Francisco | Getting Furniture Professionally Spray Painted? We've gone coffee table-less for years. We have a nice large living room area, plenty of space for one, but I've enjoyed having the room for our kid, his friends, and the dog to roll around. We use an ottoman (which is really ratty and needs to go), CB2 plexi nesting tables, and knockoff Aalto stacking stools. I love being able to drag the stools and tables around to use as needed. It's a great coffee table alternative for a small living room. Apartment Therapy Chicago | Living Rooms Without a Coffee Table |

Lori, I'm assuming you live in San Francisco? NYC summers can be incredibly hot and humid. Before a/c was common here, folks coped with summer by either escaping the city or sleeping on their fire escapes. Your solutions - heavier windows treatments and a fan - aren't really feasible, especially for apartments that lack cross-ventilation. The whole thing seems odd - it makes me wonder about the thought process behind the object. I realize it's mounted on the wall correctly, but it looks like it's been turned on it's side. Awkward. Apartment Therapy New York | Strata Cabinet for the hall by Nicole Runde Design Showcase 2009 |

I've been looking for a way to display a large map on my nephew's bedroom wall. I agree with slowdown that this trend is already fully exploited, but my nephew knows nothing about decor and has an interest in travel, so what the hell. Anyway, I can easily go from one year to the next without stepping foot in his bedroom, so it's not like I'll ever have to look at it. Apartment Therapy San Francisco | Maps As Wallpaper |

The best thing about this design is the material used to fill the rods - just look at those marbles - so why not save yourself about $200, buy normal towel rods, and get some beautiful marbles to display in a jar or vase. Apartment Therapy Boston | Glass-Filled Towel Rods by Designer Rods |

We've generally had very good luck with houseguests, but I do remember my brother-in law once accidentally letting our cat out, despite my warning to keep the door shut. amers, bedbugs can be in almost anything - I've heard of exterminators finding them in alarm clocks. And they can live without feeding for a ridiculous length of time - up to a year.
