Although I like the idea of being submersed in a pillowed room with dark colors on the wall and floor -almost as it you were at a retreat in a far away land. It would become a holiday but as relaxed as you may feel you need something that will energize you. Something soft but crisp. (Something that will get you out of bed in the morn with comfort.)
I think that it would be lovely to have a fluffy white down style comforter, with shades of pinks and soft yellows, multiple patterns, with warm elements of the organic (wood, coral, recycled newspaper, raw rope etc). I see that you are considering your walls to be in the family of gray. I think that if you choose a light gray it wouldn't overwhelm the space. If possible consider replacing the carpet to hardwood and then adding a super funky (or to your taste) rug (which will be easy to change if/when the function of the room does). Also depending on what the direction of the windows are, I would consider an elegant lace for the window treatments or perhaps a sheer white. The slanted wall makes the room feel very cottage like. You may consider painting it a very light blue (just a bit). And what's great is you can still keep some of your pieces that you already have -like the side table, the lamp, bed skirt (or dye it to make it match the chosen color), and the interesting wall art. I would keep the fan (I bet it does get hot up there) but maybe change the blades to match the cottage feel.

Good luck! There are many great ideas on this post.

Did you decide what room where they will live? Is there any accent colors in that rooms? Does it even matter? (To some it does.) If it were up to me I would go in the family of orange. But if you like yellow you could do a pale canary yellow?

As much as I truly love the vintage and functions of this amazing find, is there any way the pictures can be removed from the boxes? If so you can re-purpose both parts. Frame the images and put in the baby/toddler's room-- or a room that the children access so that it continue to be used as a learning tool. Then you can reuse the boxes by placing pictures of your family in them. They could still building blocks or maybe just picture frames.

My current washer/dryer came with my house. Don't get me wrong, I would much rather do my wash at home rather than a laundry mat (which I did for 15 years) but I would love a more efficient set. And this set is matching and stylin'!

My current davenport is SUPER ugly and REALLY difficult to lounge on (a hand-me-down from my parents) and this comfy pillow cloud would be perfect in my new digs
