I am 29 years old, have been out of the house for 7 years, live out of state and my seat is still MY seat! I pull rank and kick my brother out of it whenever I'm home. I mean come on, he should know better lol.

As a former (public school) 1st grade teacher and a current middle school teacher, I wholeheartedly believe in play. The socialization issues that I saw with the little ones and that I see with the big ones are huge. Critical thinking skills are lacking and there are more emotional issues than ever. These children all began attending school post-NCLB. It has left all of them behind.

PLAY IS IMPORTANT!!!!!!!! PLAY IS WORK!!!!!!!! Kindergarteners and first graders shouldn't be reading chapter books (unless they happen to be ready), they should be building communities with blocks. Children are looked at as being behind, but they aren't we are just pushing them too hard when they are 4. They have limited recess and often no gym. Poor things. We need a culture change.
