Most all our apartments are above ground. No basement apts here. In fact, not too many basements either. Weather so spectacular, who'd hang out in a basement? Downside is, if you kid doesn't leave home, you can't put him down in the basement with the video games? He remains at home living periously close to the kitchen. Warning, Patricia! Re: your paintings on the walls of the garage. I put college texts in garage of rental bungalow in nearby Glendale. It rained, lost them all. Landlords often ignore leaks in garages roofs. Patricia's Downsized Digs House Tour |

I have had this wonderful furniture arrangement for a few years and love it and so do my guests. I took a Hemnes (Ikea) round table and cut it down from dining height (29") to cocktail height (24"). This means the deck of the club chairs is 7" shorter than the tabletop. Thus, myself (5-4") and friends (5'11") can scoot up and eat a meal on this table in comfort. There is a hanging pendant lamp above the center of the table, and with all lights off in room but the pendant means its very cozy. I've served Sunday breakfast and romantic dinners for two. Just toss a 54" sq. tablecloth over the table and you can set a beautiful table, which is romantic bec. the setting is far away from the kitchen. Try it, you'll like it! These cool tiles are in the bathroom at my local library, three blocks away! There's a lesson here. Look around right where you are for cool things, not where you wish you were! Inspiration: Fairview Branch Library Mid-Century Modern in Santa Monica | Apartment Therapy Los Angeles |

Tres bien, merci! You post reminds me of visiting my boyfriend's mother in Alsace, Northern France. He hadn't seen his mother in 8 years, and I was expecting a joyous and tearful reunion. Instead, we arrived 1 hour late for lunch, and she took one look at her son (55 years old), and said, "You are late for lunch; sit down now and eat!" We proceeded to eat lunch (a veal roast stuffed with mushroom duxelle, spaetzle, salad, amazing bread, amazing wine and apple tartine. We talked for the next two hours only about the food. After we ate and the dishes were cleared, she said, "Hello, my son, I have missed you so much!" First things first -- the food!!!! I took a quick look at the photo and thought this post was a "what to do with this awkward space over the fridge" post. It looks accidental for lack of better word. It needs a plant or a basket or some cookbooks to make it look deliberate, IMHO. Apartment Therapy Los Angeles | Flickr Find: Decorating With Window Panes |
