I have one precious mockingbird feather that I found on the ground when I was having a very, very, very bad day. Mockingbirds are my favorite bird on the planet for a lot of reasons. The feather felt like a gift from the universe to cheer me up. That sounds dumb as sh*t, I realize, but every time I look at the feather, I smile.

This is another teacher chiming in to say this makes me happy. Sometimes it is hard to bring myself to call parents over classroom infractions because I worry that the kids will suffer TOO much once they get home. Conversely, it's also frustrating to know there are parents who brush it off and act like it's my fault. You have struck such a great balance of love-discipline. Wish more folks were like you. Love.

When fruit is past its prime for eating raw, I chop it up and throw it into a bowl in the freezer. Then I use the frozen fruit for smoothies, without feeling the pressure to consumer it all immediately. Same thing when I find myself with too much spinach, parsley, kale or other leafy green. I puree it in the blender with a little water and freeze it in ice cube trays. Also a great, nutritious addition to smoothies.
