I had a friend once ask me to help her rearrange her furniture for exactly the reason you've stated. She thought her room looked too childish, and yes her bed was pushed into the corner.

We moved her bed a few feet away from the wall and put a nightstand on either side, and it TRANSFORMED the room. It will make a huge difference!

Also (and I know not everyone on this site agrees with this) I am a huge fan of headboards, and I think bedrooms look incomplete without them (with a few exceptions of course). I think a headboard or even a simulated headboard (some art or paint or something) would make the bed look more complete. If the bed looks more pulled together, the entire room will look more pulled together.
