I made the mistake of settling for a cheaper substitute for the original item we really wanted. We fell in love with some chairs at Restoration Hardware, but the prices were outrageous, even on sale. Instead, we settled for chairs we bought on Overstock.com. Initially, we congratulated ourselves on making a frugal substitute, but over time, these chair became constant reminders of what we really wanted. When my husband got his annual bonus, we bit the bullet and bought the RH chairs. Could have saved more money if we just simply deferred the purchase.

Gordon - I too got sucked into the "keep calm and carry on" poster. At least it was a cheap mistake.
