I too prefer the before as I think it had more character, but if it makes them happy - all the better for them! I hated the old painted brick fireplace we had when we first moved into our house and had planned to do something similar - but now I'm very glad we left it.

So lovely! So much room to breathe. So calm. So beautiful. I agree with the many of the other posters - one of the best tours I've seen.

Living in Canada does have its drawbacks. I too have yearned for this lamp since I saw it on Kickstarter. Some day...

Also guilty.

< a href="http://32pages.ca/2012/04/11/held-up-by-trees/">House Held Up by Trees, illustrated by Jon Klassen, is beyond beautiful but makes my five-year-old cry (she's very sensitive and it's a somewhat *stark* story), so we don't get it out of the library any more. And, of course, I Want My Hat Back by John Klassen is gorgeous and hilarious.

Another favourite is Little Bird by Germano Zullo and Albertine. I got it out of the library because it looked cute, but the simple words and images had me tearing up they were so profoundly sweet.

There aren't many things better than snuggling up with a beautiful book, a little one and a blanket at bed time.

Unless you love it, let it go. I've let go of family hand-me-downs that I don't truly enjoy and have never regretted it. On the other hand, when we bought our house it came with a sturdy mid-century sofa with beautiful lines that I absolutely adore. I won't be able to afford the reupholstery job for years - but I know I will love it, so I almost enjoy the wait.

We have a white penny tile backsplash and solid white (no speckle or pattern) acrylic counters. And we have kids.

They will definitely show the wear over time, but we love them, and for now, they clean up perfectly - and make me happy every day!

A few yards of double-width fabric (no seam!) with a sheet sewn in as the bottom side is still much cheaper than most duvet covers I've seen. And I sewed fitted sheets for both my daughters' beds - easy, cheap and so much nicer!
